One Step Closer

I have included a free image of a fall still life, because we are one step closer to fall. We have had our first full week of school, but next week will be short.
Today we have Book Buddies, while the teachers have meetings. Older grades get with younger grades to do a quick early morning learning activity. Then we have a "lock down" drill in case we ever have an armed intruder.
Counselor or guidance is next.
This is a swimming day.
I will meet a friend for coffee after work.
I am so ready to be through with a week.

Today it feels like fall, its almost cold, I see mums everywhere at the flowers shops and I think I'm going to get some for my gardens. Have fun back at school. Our schools start after Labour Day.

It is rather chilly this morning, isn't it? My thermostat is registering only 63°F, don't know what it's outside but I've seen people walk past wearing coats!

I remember as a child we started after Labor Day, and finished right before Memorial Day. There are mums in the markets now. @BarBaraPrz it has been in the sixties in the mornings, warming to eighty or ninety in the afternoon.

@GardenGerty When we lived in Kansas we liked the school systems, a good friend was married to a farmer who started in Texas and ended up in Canada every sumer just after Memorial Day harvesting wheat. My friend liked the fact her children were out of school early enough to go with dad and mom for that summer work. My husband was a teacher back them and we left before Memorial Day heading home to NY and Mass to visit our parents and siblings. NY doesn't close the schools until the end of June.

We are seeing outdoor autumn displays such as this in our area already.
Its typical that people keep them out from about Labour Day thru until it gets cold enough that things freeze.
I plan on picking up a pot of mums this weekend for my display.
Have a good Friday.

People often start small and keep adding until Thanksgiving, then whisk it all away for Christmas.

@GardenGerty And actually by your Thanksgiving we are taking our autumn decorations down and putting Christmas up, but it freezes sooner up here then it does in your area and pumpkins and things don't do well after they've froze.

Today our fifth graders met the second graders and did a simple get acquainted exchange of ideas, like favorite color, favorite snack, etc. We take our students (3 of them this year) swimming on Fridays. Our district aquatic center is across the street from the school. It helps them with more movement, and some social skills as well as practicing getting clean and dressing themselves.

I like the fall and spring temperatures the best. It has been so long since we had serious winter I would not know what to expect.

Thank you. Yes, it was a busy day, but it is now the time of year for pumpkins and gourds and harvest.

This kids in my town are now on their 3rd week of school. It seems every year they start earlier and earlier. It has been chilly here at night for weeks now. Strange weather.

Our first day of school was August 17. It is cool at night here as well. I have seen them start as early as the 12th.

@GardenGerty Apparently they just got air conditioning in all the schools so it won't surprise me if it gets earlier still. They started here on August 16th. The earliest they have ever started.

I seldom wear sweaters, I just feel naturally warm most of the time.

Especially with special needs children and all the mandated drills and anti bullying lessons on top of new routines.
