Sizing things up, it's a jungle back there

The picture above is of part of my back yard.
Because we had such a wet July and August the weeds took advantage and grew really tall, I will now have to pull all those weeds you see Ally standing by.
There is part of an elm in the left top corner but you can hardly see it, the rest are the weeds.
Aerobics anyone?
I'll be gettin plenty of exercise

Thats sweet of you. I bought myself one of those netting dillybobs bee keepers use so that the jumping bugs and gnats can't get into my eyes, it's been hell this year with all the weird bugs we have right now. I've been here 20 years and I've never had that kind of problem before.

Ally looks as if she is getting plenty of exercise watching you do all of the work! Are the weeds rooted deep or shallow?

They're not too deep if they remain under 4' but after that they get these huge trunks that're almost like that of tree saplings and then I simply have to cut them down instead of pulling them out. Either way the roots won't live past this season no matter what so if I do let them dry up I can use a long handled tool to smack them down.
It's exercise.

@rebelann Is that weed the stuff that horses like to eat? Sure looks familiar. Last Thanksgiving- so long ago- I think we stuffed a squash with bread crumbs and gads if I remember. Sure looked pretty. Maybe an apple pie. For you I'd make a pot pie.

If I had a mower I probably would do that unfortunately the rains began in late June and didn't really let up until late August, very unusual for this part of TX, so mowing would not have been possible anyway and in deserts the weeds grow really fast IF they get rain.

Oooh, you're going to have lots of fun with those weeds! You'll get a good workout for sure! Have fun with that! I'd offer to help you with that, but, um, I have to wash my hair. Do my homework. Feed the dog. Whoa...look at the time! I have to go! haha

Wow that will keep you busy for awhile. It has been very dry here. We are in desperate need for rain here but we will be getting lots of it in the next few days.

It hasn't rained since the end of August and it doesn't look like any is coming our way any time soon so I'll probably be dealing with dried weeds pretty soon. At least I got some of it done already but half an acre is big and I don't have any power tools, I'm putting that in my wish list though, I wouldn't mind if I had some kind of electric cutting tool.
