It feels quite strange here right now. Around town all stores are closing of course and it feels weird to have nothing open and available. Walmart closed at 5pm today. Gas stations are empty of gas and closed. Feels like a ghost town around here. The wind is picking up and it's raining heavy on and off. Have you ever seen a town empty?

I hope you're not in direct line with the hurricane. No, I've never been in that situation.

@just4him Thank you. No we stayed. We aren't in an evacuation zone and we're not near the ocean or any rivers.

Be safe. I imagine it would be so strange if all of the sudden a town became unusually quiet and empty...

The times our town had to evacuate due to the risk of the levee breaking, it was spooky how quiet and empty everything was when we returned. I hope you and your family stays safe.

Even when Irene came through our state people were still out in force. Many foolishly were standing on the bridge or nearby the swollen river to watch as the waters boiled furiously downstream. A car was caught under the bridge and did a lot of damage to the structure. People were out as usual. Some stores were without power so that kept some people home.

I noticed that you are from Florida. I am not sure the Hurricane Irma will affect to your city or not, but it seems that it will affect most places in Florida. So people bought necessary stuffs earlier and then they stay at home. It is better to stay indoors because this is a very serious hurricane. I hope you will be safe.

I remember when Hurricane Katrina hit south Louisiana in 2005, the Greater New Orleans Area was a ghost town. After the Hurricane flooded New Orleans are the suburbs, it was Combat City.

@LovingMyBabies I had to put with the media crying that the then President Bush did not do anything to help the people in New Orleans which looked like a giant swimming pool with the floods.

When I was a kid, in Italy, the big cities in August looked like ghost town, because all resident were vacationing on the beaches. This is a very different scenario. Depressing. Stay safe.

@MALUSE I went the past 15th of August to Milan to visit my Mother, it was a ghost town as in the past. The best time to go to Milan if you only need to visit someone.
