Hard to find good buns!

Hamburger buns, I mean, of course. The world is in an uproar, hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, "wars and rumors of war." But you and I can't do a darn thing about those things but sympathize and hope and pray. So, I thought I would take up another pressing matter, buns. Hamburgers, chicken burgers, turkey burgers, veggie burgers, they all need buns to hold them and the mayo, mustard, pickle, lettuce and tomato together. But some don't! After the first bite or two, the bun starts to disintegrate, gets soggy, falls apart. Those buns are the soft ones (white or wheat) on sale everywhere. I was a bakery recently, saw their buns and brought some home. Wow! Industrial strength, about two inches of bread on each side of the burger patty. They stayed together alright, but were so thick they filled you up before you could say "pass the fries, please." I finally found some that are better but not perfect, called "Pub buns." They are not whole wheat, my preference, but not too thick and hold together pretty well. I guess they' ll do for now. Are there any great buns available where you live?

Buns are not something we eat here, the burger patties are served on a dish with the fries and the veggies and not in a bun.

@JamesHxstatic I like bread, but too much bread is not a good thing, the buns even contain corn syrup, fructose and oil, it's not something I would add to the homemade bread.

And thus you take on a lot fewer calories than burger eaters here.

How true!!! Lol! I can't open my mouth wide enough if a bun is too thick, but I have to go to a good bakery before I could find any that meet my expectations. Another store to stop at.

I haven't been able to find any that I like either. The best so far is a store brand, but they are small. I guess I should be happy about that, but I just eat two instead of one! I hate buns that fall apart and leave you with a napkin or handful of burger.

Yes, we have a deli-bakery department in our local store, that bakes their hamburger buns. I only buy one or two at a time, because they cost 40 cents apiece. They are multi-grain and my husband loves them!:)

@kobesbuddy Yes, we buy six or eight too and then they are not as good as fresh I think.

Now that is the way to buy them if you can, just when you need them. Great idea!

@Hannihar Many fall apart too easily or are too thick or too thin. That "just right" bun is the best.

Across the street from Costco is Franz/Snyder's huge bakery. They have a store where you can buy anything they make at the bakery. I bought some big hamburger buns there that did a pretty good job. I also bought some whole wheat buns there as well.

@JamesHxstatic Since I go to Costco fairly often I go across the street for my bread. On Wednesdays seniors, emergency workers and military get a 10% discount.
