'' Books are a uniquely portable magic.” -- Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft Most of the readers especially who those who love suspense/horror and supernatural stories will be familiar with the writings of this best selling author. The shining is one of his better liked books. This book had been adapted as a movie of the same name in 1980,directed Stanley Kubrick. I had read the book and watched the movie.Though the movie does not follow the book faithfully,it was very good. In 1997 The Shining was adapted as a TV series.I had not watched it till date. It is said to be a more faithful adaptation of the book. Also,I remember @LadyDuck saying this was good. So now I have downloaded it and am going to watch it.It has only one season with 3 episodes. How many of you are familiar with the book? Photo--fancast.com

You remember well, this TV mini series is a lot more similar to the book than the movie. I bought the DVD many years ago and I liked it. At least the end is the same as the book, the ending of the movie was totally invented by Kubrick and I know that Stephen King did not appreciate.

Thank you.I read somewhere that Stephen King hated Kubrick's interpretation of the primary characters in the film.Any way as it is not too long,I hope to finish watching it this week.

I have heard of The Shining , but I don't read Stephen King, he is way too scary for me, I don't watch horror movies either, I am a bit of a wimp. I hope you enjoyed the series though.

It seems like I had seen the tv show. He also wrote a sequel to The Shining recently. The sequel is good too.
