Long time no see!!!

It has been a couple months since I've seen one of the raccoons out front. Yesterday, I noticed the bird feeder out front hadn't needed filled for a few days and decided to take a closer look at it. Seems a storm we had in the past week had soaked into some of the seed and was clogging the holes it comes through, so no one could get any feed from it. So I dumped it out, cleaned it out, and refilled it, and there was a good pile of feed on the ground below it. This morning I let Scar out, and I noticed he didn't leave the porch, he just sat down and started staring. So I stuck my head out the door and there was one of the 'coons happily feasting on what I spilled yesterday. It shouldn't be much longer before they go into semi-hibernation for the year. (Raccoons don't actually hibernate, as such, but they are known to stay inside the den for quite some time between feedings during the winter).

I haven't seen raccoons in our area for quite some time. Usually they are abundant. Wonder what is going on with them?

Since a large part of the bush was removed almost two years ago (emerald ash borer) we don't see many raccoons.

A few years back I had a raccoon in my attic. He was a big'un... totally filled up the trap. The only raccoon I've seen since moving to St Catharines was an unlucky one-- it lay at the side of the road in the park.

If you look at the tree, you can see where it bent one of the nails the corn is on...I've had them take off with the entire cob sometimes

They are, but they have a nasty bite if threatened and their claws can tear you up pretty good

They are cute creatures. We had one that would come through our backyard now and again. Luckily my 2 knew to stay the hell away from it.

Cute picture. They are clever. I have not seen any around here in the last month or so. Before that there was quite a few of them around here.

Good shot. Many animals stay inside during winter. I will be glad when the hedgehog hibernates, the little guy is stealing all the food of the cat.

The raccoons don't seem to hibernate here in our mild weather in a suburban environment.

I never knew this! Instead, I thought raccoons stayed in hibernation throughout the winter months. Scar was alerted to the visitor, feasting out in your yard. We don't see many raccoons any more, but possums are all over the place.

Uh-oh @JolietJake ; Rocky is liable to pass on the word about available food and you'll have to buy more than cat food; although all 18 of my raccoon's love cat food.

I debated putting cat food out a few times for the raccoons, but I have other critters I'm afraid would come snooping...like the skunks
