I love Christmas...

I have loved it since the beginning of life. For me it is not the thought of receiving gifts that make me feel this way but rather the look on someone's face when they open a gift I have given them. It's the feeling of good cheer and the hustle and bustle of getting ready for this wonderful holiday. I used to go shopping during the Christmas season for gifts until I realized how unhappy, grumpy, and rude people seemed to behave as they rushed through the stores to pick up the gifts they were giving to others. It seemed to me that the Christmas spirit had gone out of the season in the mad rush to get things done. No one seemed to be having a good time carefully planning just the right gift to give to some one. They seemed to forget what the spirit of Christmas is all about. That was when I stopped shopping during the season and started making gifts for the people I love. I also started buying out of catalogues and online. I still wander through the beautifully decorated malls and stores reveling in the Christmas glitter but I am not one of the ones who is rushing without being able to appreciate all the gorgeous décor that so many have spent so much time preparing. I am wishing everyone all of the joys and love of the Holiday season.

We have decided not to exchange gifts anymore, but I bought a gift for my Mom about 10 days ago. It seems that unfortunately she will not be there to get her gift. I am devastated.

@HazySue She had a stroke Saturday morning, my brother found her on the floor. She was rushed to hospital, but she is in coma.

My husband and I no longer exchange gifts either. Why won't your mother be there to receive her gift? I am sening prayers and faith to you and your family.

I've always felt it was a great shame that people got so stressed over Christmas. I think your way of approaching it is much better.

@HazySue It is supposed to be a time of great joy but somehow, for many, it's been turned into something not far short of a nightmare.

I used to be in the christmas spirit but this year i just can't get into it. I think it has to do with my upcoming surgery and stressing to get everything done before then. I still have alot to buy for i'm not completely done yet. Hoping to get a christmas list this weekend and get it all done then. I do all my christmas shopping online i don't go in the stores anymore unless it's for some last minute stuff.

I can certainly understand how hard it is to get into the Christmas spirit when you are facing surgery. I hope it gets better for you and you can get some of the peace from this season.

Thank you ..... I love Christmas too because it denotes the lengthening of the days. The shortest day of the year is usually around the 21st of December. I don't shop for Christmas presents anymore, I'd rather give everyone I love my undivided attention for a few hours. So far that has been a wise choice as my friends really like getting some much needed attention. I get to hear their troubles or help with their shopping or simply meet someone for a nice lunch. I was told that too often family and friends forget to simply spend time with each other so I'll continue to do this and I hope my ghost will too

I agree, the fun has gone out of the season in the past several years. I also agree, it's fun to walk through the malls and see all the beautiful decorations. When I was a kid, there were window displays. We would come to Green Bay just to see all the animated displays the department stores had. The museum here has those shop windows available to see during the holiday season. I hope I get a chance to see it this year. That would be awesome. BTW - here is a picture of my sister-in-law. My brother is next to her.

@HazySue Yes, it is. It's my favorite time of year to see decorations everywhere. She's a sweetheart. When my brother found her, he found a real winner.

I love the holidays too, I usually try to get away to somewhere that has a special show or decorations for Christmas. I am still deciding where to go this year. Newport RI is always the fall back destination.

Sometimes I wish I had a glitzy mall to wander in. And lots of folks to give gifts to. Enjoy the Yule season!
