Getting About Town: Bus Transport from the Past

One 1960s memory I have is going to the movies on a Saturday afternoon. We lived close enough to walk into town to the theatre, but often caught a bus home later in the afternoon.
Although this postcard image was probably produced in the late 1940s or early 1950s, it shows the red buses I used to travel on, parked outside the bus terminal.
Of course, this part of the city centre looks nothing like this now, although intercity buses do leave from a terminal just around the corner from the bus terminal shown here. The old terminal has been replaced by a modern i-site, but the art deco ladies rest rooms out the back have been retained and are in a superb condition.
The road shown here no longer exists as a thoroughfare, but is much narrower and wide enough only for the intercity buses to depart through and is used mostly by pedestrians.
I love looking at old images from my childhood days and this postcard certainly brings back many memories.
Postcard from my own collection, produced by the National Publicity Studios c1950.

My home town has changed a lot over the years too. I had an old picture of the capitol building back in the 50's.

Lovely photo!
I was just reading an article that featured old photos of Manila. So much has changed.

Always nice to reminisce and remember the old times. I still have fond memories of the town I went to Grade School in and walking there and around town.

Great memories, and the roads must have been very empty during those bus rides then!

@valmnz So true. I was born in 1978 and my dad used to tell me stories of how it was back then in the 50s and 60s. I loved listening to his stories.

@toniganzon it's good that families pass on stories of what their childhood lives were like.

I used to ride the bus to and from school and then it was our only mode of transportation before I could drive. Looking back is bittersweet because so much has changed where I grew up.

It doesn't take that many years for big changes to occur. The community we moved from thirty years ago is totally unrecognizable.

It is interesting to see images of the past and the changes that were made to stay with the current times.
