My van wouldn’t start.. a long post but lots of kindness

I got my son and I ready and went out to my van to head out of town. My van wouldn’t start. After calling two people and posting on Facebook I thought to text my sister to see if her boyfriend was home to come jump start my battery. My sister came up and the first set of cables did nothing at all. The second newer pair made it almost want to start but it just wouldn’t. I had needed to leave at 9:30 to be somewhere at 10:30. After 11 I got a call from the place saying I was supposed to be there and I explained I was in a panic and trying to figure out what to do. They said as long as I got there by 4pm it would be okay. My sister texted my mom and asked her to give me a ride since she knew I would not ask. I was just going to wait to see when my father in law was done working if he could try jumping my van. My mom took my son and I and we arrived at our destination and thanked the people very much for being patient and understanding. I had a doctors appointment and my mom dropped me off on her way to go swim. I lost a brand new pair of gloves on the way somehow. I literally took the tags off before I went out the door. The nurse and doctor asked me if I was done Christmas shopping and I laughed and said no and told them how I was going to finish shopping tomorrow but my van wouldn’t start so it was lucky I shopped online and my kids will be okay with a few less presents. As I left the doctor handed me a card and my prescriptions and said Merry Christmas. I thanked him assuming it was something they did for all customers before Christmas. I walked home in the cold and when I opened the card there was a $100 bill. I’m teary eyed writing this. I never expected anything like this and feel a little guilty. I hope they didn’t think I was having myself a pity party and wanting attention. I was just chuckling about the bad timing of this happening. This is when it’s nice living in a small town where there are such kind people out there like this. I am hoping my boyfriend can get my car started for me soon or I will be calling the garage after the holidays.

My sister knows I avoid asking people for help as much as possible so she went and asked my mom to drive me and when I said I hate people having to cart my butt around she said "oh well you need help". Today makes me wish I had a second vehicle.

I hope you won’t be spending your holidays without a vehicle. And so thoughtful of them.

@Madshadi The garage called and the battery needed to be replaced. They need to fix a cable too that goes to the hood release but they have to order that part. I will be picking up my van as soon as my boyfriend comes and then will drop it back off after the holidays.

I don’t know yet but I hope I won’t have to be without one either. I only travel across the street to my moms for Christmas dinner though so it won’t be like I have to go far and can’t make it.

He is a really amazing person to do this. He has been my doctor since I was a baby and is my childrens doctor too. It will be a loss for our town when he retires.

I asked my boyfriend if he would go to my dads garage tonight and take the trickle charger off and put it on my van for the night and see if it will charge it up. He asked if he could come tomorrow morning instead when he drops his son off at school. He said he will bring his tools because he wants to check the engine too.

It's hard to believe that a doctor made such a kind gesture, really unusual and surely must appreciated by you and your family. Good people still exist.

I was shocked by this extremely kind act. I hope he gets the thank you card soon that I sent in the mail yesterday. I know where he lives but figured mailing it would be better. I sent it to the office though so he might not get it until after the holidays.

It was the battery was bad so thats fixed now but in checking that the cable for the hood latch stretched out and has to be replaced so thats being ordered. Then the tire we found last night is leaking air and I'm praying there isn't a gad leak like my boyfriend thinks.

He is such a kind person to do this. I always dread when he retires as he has been my doctor since I was a baby and I reallly like him. He doesn't push me to take medicine we don't need.

My boyfriend and I were driving through the city tonight between grocery stores and he said he can't understand how people live in cities. I think it could be neat. I'd have a hard time sleeping though I am bothered by noises.

I don't like talking about the kind deeds I do as I don't feel I need a pat on the back but I enjoy sharing stories about others acts of kindness I see go on
