i need a cheap and simple dog repellant to make our dog avoid a certain area. from the articles i browsed online, dogs don't like the following scents: citrus (like orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit) chili powder or black pepper vinegar mothballs ammonia rubbing alcohol eucalyptus oil (like vicks vaporub) lavender coffee grounds baking soda household detergent i might try putting citrus peels first since we always have dalandan/dalanghita (to be honest, i don't know the difference between the two). they're like oranges, but smaller. the skin is green, thin, shiny and smooth, then lightens to yellow. you can easily peel it with your hands. it can be sweet or sour. anyway, have you tried any of the scents listed above as a dog deterrent ?

I'm looking for the exact same thing but for cats. There is this cat that LOVES to poop in my garden. Not sure what's so special about that very spot other than having an apple tree beside it, but it wouldn't poop anywhere else. I heard that there are some cat repellent products to buy but it would be nice if something from your list works.

@hereandthere they are and this one has an owner. I have no idea who it's owner is. It comes into my garden to poop, jumps a few trees and then goes back.

@Madshadi maybe it's afraid of its owner that it wouldn't poop in their garden

@hereandthere It could be that everyone else is chasing it away so it likes my garden

The dog of my niece loves to rub her nose on the oranges, so I can exclude that dogs hate the smell of citrus. I know nothing for the other things. I would not use ammonia or mothballs, imagine the dog licks those things.

no, even the green plants, our dog Xander loves to brush his fur. they don't evade any scent, odor, or smell in the house.

I wouldn't use any chemical compound. I tried putting orange and kalamansi peelings but they didn't work. Perhaps lime would be effective because they have more zing in their acidity.

They are both the same. I don't know why others call it dalanghita and some dalandan.

@hereandthere Let me take that back. Dalandan is the other term for kahel which is orange in English. Dalanghita is a type of citrus fruit that is green. Ponkan and kiat kiat are the same right?

@hereandthere And still no see hahahaha! Hotel project has been very delayed becauase of many factors, one of which was the building permit which took 7 months to be released. At the moment, there are still things to be clarified with the design from the queries of the bidders. Anyway, I hope you had a great Christmas celebration today, Ms. Everywhere :)

Angus don´t like the smell of vinegar because we have noticed that he didn´t like to eat food cooked in vinegar. He loves the smell of lavender and citrus essential oil. Maybe because I smelt lavender and citrus when I was doing aromatherapy from work. He snift me eagerly when I arrived home from work,

i think because he's eager to see you so he's used to the smell. so you feed angus table food, not dog food?

@hereandthere After a few raining times? perhaps half a month or a month max. How about planting a lemon tree which can drop fruits down right there, better yet, a kind of lemon which could peel and slice itself into tiny pieces? (I let the dogs do whatever they want these days. Too lazy chopping the peels!)
