I'm not sure how this disgusting Bug caught me

I rarely catch a or any kind of bug that goes around. We had shopping to do this morning and then at 3 PM we were going to a memorial service for and old friend, mentor and professor who passed away a little while back. I knew him and his wife quite well and had already RSVP'd to her invitation.
I know it will be a time of sadness, held in a great old building at the University, but one of remembrance and good humor as well. I so hate to miss it, but awoke this morning feeling run down with a scratchy throat and sort of a runny nose. We did the shopping, but I decided that I should not go and expose the other guests.
But I will read some of his, Ralph Salisbury's, poetry this afternoon and think of the times in his classes and the individual mentoring he did for me back when I was a student.

I'm sorry you're not so well. I do hope it doesn't develop into anything too much worse. And it's good really that you're not going to the service. Once people would have gone to hell or high water to attend but more and more I think people are becoming more aware of how germs can spread in situations like yours.

Yes, this flu that is going around this year is quite virulent and the vaccine they used is only 30% effective, I heard. I doubt that I have that, but I posted this, sat down in my recliner, read a bit and fell asleep for two hours. That was a surprise, since I rarely ever nap.

@JamesHxstatic The sleep will do you good. You must have needed it if you don't usually nap.

I hope you feel much better now. You were wise not to go and spread your germs. Unfortunately, not everyone is so considerate. We attended a musical last Saturday evening, and one of our friends showed up sick as a dog. Knock on wood, we haven't gotten sick, yet.

I am glad to hear that. I am some better today, but no ping pong, so I don't expose anyone.

@celticeagle Oh yes, that is a good one. Just stuffy now with a bit of a cough, so not too bad.

WE have had this miserable stuff and I'm sorry you seem to have caught it and have to miss that memorial service. Although you will remember your friend in your own way, I know you will miss being with the other who miss him and trading memories with them. I also always learn more about parts of my friends' lives that happened before I knew them when I go to these services. I'm sure you probably had memories you would like to have shared.

@JamesHxstatic Stay home and nurse it and stay away from groups as much as possible while you are in weakened condition. That protects you and others. It was kind of you to stay home and not spread the germs.

No doubt. Ralph was a native-Amrican World War II vet, trained as a bombardier, claimed to be the worst one ever. I have several of his books of course.
I don't think that I have the flu actually, just a cold at this point.

Yes, I know, but it was a pain to miss that. I am sure it is only a cold now. I slept well and am pretty sure there is no fever and my appetite is good, as always.

It would not be good to make others ill, just to be there. Thanks.
