I Might Have To Buy A Disposable Camera

Canada
January 19, 2018 7:44am CST
When the kids were here with their cameras at Christmas did I remember to ask them to help me buy a new camera? No, I didn't even think of it. My old faithful camera has reached the end of its life. It still take photos but they are not clear and gorgeous. I expect clear and gorgeous from my cameras. My oldest son is a whiz with cameras, he knows what I need and I forget to mention it. He's up north plowing again and I don't want to bother him so I am thinking of a throwaway... a disposable camera for our trip south. I have used them in the past and I'm assuming they are even better than they were years ago. What do you think? I want a camera for our trip. I don't want to spend hundreds and get the wrong camera so maybe I will wait for my son's suggestion... And buy a throwaway. Any suggestions on which throwaway works the best? The photo is mine and edited to make it happy...

I have a Canon that is great and easy to use. It was under $400. Personally, I love my iPad and iPhone cameras. Both my sons are amateur photographers and have all the fancy cameras, but my younger son only brought a disposable camera and underwater camera, as well as his iPhone, on his honeymoon. The disposable camera took awesome photos and was ultra inexpensive.

I think I might go with the disposable, My son is busy at the moment and he helped me pick it my last one - a cannon and I've had it for 10 years at least and it was fantastic. He said a while ago he would help me get another but with less options on it since I only used a few of the options on the one I have now. My iPad takes interesting photos and will be traveling with me too...We still refuse to carry a cell phone but the older we get we know its more important for our safety. I want one for the car... all of my children have iPhones

@DianneN We're just trying to be different... We have several phones in the house and they all take messages, I don't like the idea of being interrupted with a cell phone ringing.I though we could live without a cell phone but driving at my age makes me want one for the car.

@PainsOnSlate We had a car phone back in the day. It was a "cell" phone, but so huge! We had it mounted in the car.. Now days, even our grandkids have iPhones for passing the time at the ice rinks and for keeping in touch with one parent or the other who are spread thin at the rinks with one kid or the other. They do not bring the phones to school or other activities, but it's a godsend.

We have two point and shoots (long story not worth repeating) but one has now given up the ghost. Vince is thinking of getting a new phone to replace our ancient one and will possibly get one with a camera in it. I will still have one point and shoot which suits me. Sorry but I know nothing about disposables.

Mine is a point and shoot too and I have two of them. I decided to take both with me and my ipad and see what happens while away. If I'm not happy, i can get a disposable down there.. I need to remember to buy batteries..

Nice job on that photo. I didn't know they still made those throwaways, down here it's almost impossible to find a film processing center anymore, the only 1 I know of is ridiculously expense. Do they make digital throwaways?

If they do I'll bet it takes 3.2 megapixel shots @PainsOnSlate that's just not worth the effort. Maybe you can simply use your phone?

@PainsOnSlate My phone is a very basic phone and it takes bad photos, but I keep my digital camera in my handbag all the time.

Why do you want a throwaway camera? I'd take a cheap and good one which lasts. I think there aren't any bad cameras anymore. If I were you, I'd decide on the sum of money I wanted to spend and then go to a camera shop. I want to see the camera I buy and hold it in my hands. I'm sure you can find something without disturbing your son.

@PainsOnSlate As I've already said, there aren't any bad cameras on the market anymore. Even the cheap ones can make good photos.

I do love my camera but its dying, I will get a great camera but my son wanted to get me one that fits my lifestyle, this winter has been bad for us, usually he would be right on it (getting my camera) but he has been plowing snow every night and sleeping every day. My last one was expensive and worked wonderfully, I have thousands of photo from that camera, I intend to pay more money this time but will wait for my son to do it. He searches every thing he buys. For our vacation I am taking my iPad and will buy something - so that is why I was thinking throw away)

@ilocosboy because we are old, we are set in our ways of living. It drives us crazy to see people walking down the street talking on a cell phone, driving a car and talking on a cell phone, and a cell phone in hand by most people every where we look. We will have one soon but I can tell you it will be shut off until we want it on.

My oldest son is pretty sharp with cameras but unfortunately I'm not. I don't know what type to suggest but I am sure you will find one that will work for you.

You can buy a nice point and shoot for under $100 at Walmart when you get here. I have a Canon point and shoot that is excellent. Of course, I prefer my Rebel but it is much more expensive. My Rebel 5 cost about $500 but came with two lenses and the bag (QVC)

My cannon point and shoot cost around $500 and I loved it but its over 10 years old and is not working well anymore. I think for my vacation I will go with a throwaway and have my son help me get a good one again later. I will have my iPad with me too...

Why don't you buy a Fuji camera. They are very good or even a Canon. The Fuji takes really good pictures and you can zoom in or zoom out.

Why don't you call your son and ask him about it? I'm sure he is just one call away. And you will surely buy a camera that is worth to buy.

I have to have a nice camera as well. Unfortunately the last one I bought was $600 and I hated it. I still use it because it works but I would love a better one. I plan to buy a canon next time. I have used Panasonic cameras for years and years and I have had enough of them! I would buy a disposable camera if no other option but to me they just aren't any good.

Even those older cameras or new retro models that are good only for calling and texting have a decent camera, perhaps you would like to consider them, atleast they are not disposable and could be used over and over. The retro Nokia 3310 is only around 60 dollars or maybe even lower now
Check out Nokia 3310, the updated classic that’s just as good as you remember it. With a fun design, four colors to choose from and features that first made it famous, including Snake, durable build and awesome battery life.

The disposable cameras of today are great. But what about your smartphone or a tablet, they have good cameras on them in my opinion also. Good luck with making a decision.
