Not smart enough to use a 'smartphone'

Seriously. I have this friend...his name is Phredwreck...and he doesn't have a clue how to operate a smartphone. He has successfully failed at being able to answer one, he has failed at being able to hang up after a call is over, he has failed at being able to make the camera work when he and a friend bumped into someone famous so my friend doesn't have a picture of him and Michael Anthony. I guess he's just technologically challenged. And can you believe he actually owns a flip-phone? Of course, he's never butt-dialed anyone, and he's never broken the screen on his phone, etc. He almost acts like he is happy not to have a smartphone. The big dummy.

Ah but you're errr.... sorry I mean your friend, is just fooling himself into thinking he's happy. I have it on very good authority, well I've seen the adverts, that without the latest, greatest technology, which looks and behaves suspiciously like last weeks latest, greatest technology but with a few more pixels and a headphone socket that no longer takes a standard headphone jack, you can't possibly be happy!!!

@JolietJake You're only kidding yourself! Eventually you will conform. You will consume. Come on man, think of all the CEOs who you are depriving of bonuses by not doing what you were put on this earth to do. Consume damn you, consume!!!!!!

I also still have a flip-phone, I tried to use the smartphone of my husband and I have not been excited at all. I am happy without a smartphone.

My husband is trying to teach me to use his so I can answer it for him. I hate using something that turns off the screen before I'm through viewing it. I want him to learn to use a laptop so he won't expect me to print everything he wants to see from the internet. It isn't happening. But he's almost 80, and I can see that learning this sort of thing may be hard for him. He's pretty set in his ways. And so am I.

@JolietJake I was also unable to answer a call, I never did before, they are so different from my old reliable cellphone.

My Boss has handed me his when he is busy before and told me to answer it...nope, wasn't happening. Maybe I don't know the correct 'swiping' procedure.

Your friend is not the only one. My uncle doesn't know how to use a smartphone too and he is still using a Nokia phone.

I have a android phone but I don't use it as a phone but as a camera. I haven't had it update it's system yet. I'm not fond of smart phones either, laptop is still the best for me.

@JolietJake That's the difference in the world that I have found. When I had a flip phone, it was mainly for calling, and people still did that a few years ago, right? And today, it just seems like the phone is more for everything else, using the GPS, getting emails on the go and texting.

@Juliaacv We survived many a year without emails and texting, I don't really consider them necessary for me. I have a GPS for the van.

I'll be in trouble if they ever stop using flip-phones. Or maybe not, since I don't really like phones anyway.

I can understand that, thankfully I don't have to use my phone for much business except actual calls.

Who's Michael Anthony? I don't have a smartphone or even a flip-phone, so I'm even better off that Phred.

@JolietJake So Phred would be really upset about missing that opportunity. But he still has the memory, right?

@BarBaraPrz Yep. I have the memory of not being able to operate Craig's phone so he doesn't have a picture of him and Michael, but he does have me to verify it happened.

My In-laws swore that they would NEVER get smart phones. They do pre-paid Trac Phones and I have no idea how that works with smart phones . . . But I digress. Anyway, first my MIL got one and finally my FIL capitulated. They have joined the 21st century. Meanwhile I’m writing this from my iPhone X.

Boss pays for this one since it is technically a 'business phone' but when he got new phones a few years ago I let him know I would prefer a flip-phone.

I had a flip-phone for about four years. I didn't have any desire to use it, for anything else but sending and receiving phone calls. Then, I learned how to send text messages, which wasn't that hard to learn. I've never desired to have a smart-phone, even though every member in my family has owned, at least one. Our grandkids stare at that phone-screen, like it's their entire life on this earth! It's scary to see how it controls some people's minds:(

My dad never had a smartphone. Now he has one, but doesn't know how to use it. I explained to him and he learned really fast. I know other people who don t have smartphones, but also they hate such phones. They say people are too addicted and they avoid any contact with one. And they are happy without smartphones. They say smartphones aren't of any use.
