Out my window this morning

We are going into our closest town, Donnybrook in Western Australia shortly for an Australia Day breakfast but I just have time to share with you the view from our lounge room window this morning. Three roos were enjoying their own breakfast in what we call our ‘garden’ although that is a very liberal use of the term. Doesn't the joey make an interesting outline as he steps down off the path? And you can see the Music Shack in the background where we have outdoor concerts from time to time.
These two does are the quietest of all the kangaroos which frequent our 18 acres although we still can’t approach them too closely. If we are very quiet while in the house we are sometimes able to get good photos through the window. Off to read some discussions now. Have a great day everyone.

@allknowing They are beautiful birds aren't they? We used to have them on the farm. They made good watch-dogs too.

@Madshadi On the highways they (the roos) can run straight into vehicles. They decide where they're going and they head for that point. They have no idea of avoiding obstacles. If we drive very slowly they will stay where they are or just hope slowly off to one side but some take off for the bush as soon as they see a vehicle.

@sallypup They eat some leaves from trees that they like but not from all varieties. They often eat the young tender leaves of saplings that you might be trying to grow. We had to put netting round all our little trees until they got established.

That is great..hopefully some day I will have camera in hand when the deer come around here. Do the kangaroos make any noise? How do they vocalize? Have you ever heard them? The deer sound like noisy birds when they call to each other.

@JudyEv The deer sometime communicate by pawing the ground too. Like if a doe hears something and wants to alert the fawns they will do something like that. I have seen them.

@snowy22315 And if kangaroos want to warn the mob they thump the ground with one foot. At that signal the whole mob will take off.

@jobelbojel They are not welcome on farms as they eat the crops.

@JamesHxstatic Yes, they are. If there is a good season the numbers breed up very quickly and then the farmers will be licensed to shoot a certain number.

Love the view. It is an amazing sight. It must be great to be living in the midst of wild animals. the baby does look funny in that crouch position!

@Gita17112016 They are not easy to raise. You are encouraged to take any orphans to a wildlife carer who will have expertise and more especially the right type of formula for them. They are not very tolerant of lactose so need a special milk formula.

Thanks. The breakfast was very nice. We sat under some lovely trees while nine people took their Australian citizenship vows and some citizenship awards were presented.
