Starbucks girl asks "Do you want your hot chocolate hot?"...

My husband and I stopped by a drive-thru Starbucks last night to get me a hot chocolate. He told the girl at the window that he wants a small hot chocolate without whipped cream. The girl asked him if he wants it hot. Then he told her he wants it with whole milk (because usually they use 2% milk and I wanted whole milk) and she asked him if he wants whole milk on the side. Why in the right mind would she ask if we wanted our hot chocolate hot and if we wanted milk on the side? Hot implies the beverage should not be cold... And hot chocolate is made with milk, so why would we want the milk on the side? I don't know what the girl was on, or what was going through her head when we placed our order but this was ridiculous and funny at the same time. Maybe she was helping another customer while taking our order that might have ordered a beverage that could be hot or cold... but I don't think that was the case.

Either she was New and still learning the ropes, or not thinking. Maybe needing to be retrained if she was like this all the time. Even most people who have never been Barista's would pretty much know how to make Hot Chocolate

It must have been her off day. At least I hope so. It's common sense that a hot chocolate should be served hot. Whether a person drinks it while it's hot or waits till it cools down is a different matter.

It sort of sounds like a question she asks everyone but never listens to herself. So did you end up with hot chocolate or something else?

After she gave us the "hot chocolate" I asked hubby to ask her how much he paid for it (he paid using his Starbucks card) to make sure we were charged for the right beverage. He didn't do that but he checked his Starbucks card and the ending balance seemed right. I also asked him to check if it was indeed hot chocolate. He ended up trying it and said it was. So, I did get my hot chocolate and it was hot. Though not sure if she used whole milk or the 2%. I didn't drink it in the car though, as I don't drink (hot) beverages while the car is moving, so by the time I got home it was cold. Had to warm it up.

That's funny. Maybe she got confused. I do have iced hot chocolate sometimes but I think when it's cold it actually becomes a frappe?

@lovebuglena They are really nice, especially with whipped cream on top.

This reminds me of a joke about a blonde woman going through the drive through at KFC. She orders a chicken leg meal, and when the one taking her order asks her what side she wants, she replies, "I don't know? Left?" And the order taker says, "No. I mean potato salad or cole slaw?" lol

That is funny. I wouldn’t be surprised if something like this actually happened.

I love it how you make me laugh. I wonder how a hot drink can be made less hot coming out a hot making machine. I guess a person could ask for a hot drink in a cold cup.

I would look around for a hidden camera if that happened to me

She couldve been having an off day.. it happens. But hope its nothing worse than that like not knowing hot chocolate is supposed to be hot.. and with milk, unless otherwise asked.

It actually isn't that odd to ask for a hot chocolate to be iced. Some people like it that way. When I want a latte, I have to ask for iced latte or they will make it hot. can't really hold it against her for being courteous and asking., it is their job.

I have never heard of hot chocolate being iced. Chocolate milk maybe... And this is the first time in the countless times I've gotten hot chocolate at Starbucks that someone asked me if I want it hot.
