Staying rooted in Happiness

Going by comments on social media posts I get a perception that people are frustrated but then I feel the happy ones are less vocal and combative. I am generally happy and contented. I take the liberty to list some that have helped me to stay on the happy zone. 1. Happiness is a state of the mind. We are in a real world where nothing is constant, so accept what we cannot change and change what we can. 2. We have to keep working to find happiness; we are blown away often by others interference and perception that we are lucky. 3. Feel grateful and blessed for small mercies coming our way. 4. Fairy tale lives hardly exist, live in the real world. Dream on but work towards them. We can dream of climbing a tall mountain but be happy to ascend a small one to start with. 5. Don’t get carried away by pipedreams; nice to lose ourselves in them but real world is more interesting with challenges nonstop. 6. The mismatch between expectations and reality is a real dampener. Work to bridge this gap though I temper my expectations often to match with reality. I know there are others here who are having much better lives and happier. Maybe, they can share what it takes to reach that position so that lesser mortals benefit. Image: Happiness from Pixabay

I am happy almost all the time. Happy because I am healthy, because I found my soul made and we live happy together. Happy not to have too many problems. You are responsible of your happiness.

Happy for you. We are all blessed but it is up to us how we face life and accept the reality. Those not in our control keep us alive - siva

@Shiva49 Yes I agree but I do not envy people who have more than I have. Money does not always bring happiness but to be comfortably well off would be nice!

I think we all work towards what we desire by instinct. Each path has a price to pay and we should be willing and comfortable to do it. Even the richest do not have it easy with even money issues stalking them every moment with vultures circling above! siva

I have not had a lot of bad issues to deal with in my life but I think of happiness as a choice. For instance, it would be easy to wake up in a grumpy mood but I choose to be happy as soon as my feet hit the floor. Of course it doesn't always work but for me, happiness is a deliberate choice I make.

I too get up and reassure myself that it pays to be happy than be otherwise! Better not run away from life. Happiness begets happiness and the opposite holds true too; so better to do our bit as a co-creator - siva

that is very true... if we want to be happy and feel the real happiness, we must learn to accept our misfortunes and be contented with what was given to us. never be envious of others and don't forget to say thank you, even for those small things or favors given to you... staying happy is staying healthy too..

Thanks Cristy for your response. What Voltaire said is the guide - siva "Each player must accept the cards life deals him or her; but once they are in hand, he or she alone must decide how to play the cards in order to win the game."

Wow..you have actually listed what I believe in. My happiness and peace are usually disturbed by others. I am pretty much in my world person working towards small goals, and planning at times dreaming yes, but mostly planning and working towards them.

Thanks. We do not know who is going to upset the apple carts we take care to build. We are not left in peace even if we just mind our own business. Unsolicited advice is a bane in our society - talk is cheap! I take day by day and another peaceful one coming my way is a blessing - siva

I believe that it is not how much one has but what one makes of what one has is the route to happiness. I follow that.

@allknowing That reminds me what my friend told me in response to my statement that I have enough to satisfy my needs. He said his needs are ten times mine and his wife ten times his! siva

Yes, we should be happy with what we have than feel miserable with what we don't. We should get our priorities right to suit our needs - siva

The only thing that makes me happy is when I feel that real sense of peace of mind ... There can be no real happiness without peace within ..

Yes, happiness is a state of the mind. It comes from within and we should have balance in life. The Buddha said learn to let go for peace of mind - siva

Was this great President ever happy? The many photos of him, hardly ever show him with a smile.
"I have noticed that most people in this world are about as happy as they have made up their minds to be.” This quote is attributed to Abraham Lincoln, (1809 to 1865), the former President of America. Is happiness then really of the mind, and so we can decide to be happy, or does its vein run deeper than that in our heart? I would offer that happiness is one of the many attributes or qualities of love, and so we can decide to be happy, but we will still never be entirely happy, until we love fully from our heart. Deciding to do something at least points us in the right direction, but to actually feel that happiness, we must love, for only the loving are ever really happy. Was this great President ever happy? The many photos of him, hardly ever show him with a smile. Photo Credit: This photo of Abraham Lincoln was freely sourced from the free media site, pixabay.com.

@Shiva49 Living by such a set of values and keeping to them would tend to help you to stay happy, because you are being true to yourself, and yet, can others be happy without this outlook? Could a criminal be happy, when he is pillaging others, and is happy to get away with it? There are to me then various types of happiness. The deepest type must be the one linked to spiritual fulfillment and living a God-inspired loving life, by living as close to God as we can do so, without bumping our heads together, or rubbing shoulders, as you put it.

@innertalks Some accomplishments give momentary happiness while others are lasting and we should know the difference as, otherwise, our pursuits will not bear the fruit of happiness. I recall when in college few went after a beautiful girl but then the one who won the prize catch may find the happiness fleeting. Likewise, a criminal has to be ever aware of the long arm of law. Yes, it depends on the person ultimately. Some are spiritually inclined while others take to spirits to unwind! Then again, one tends to change over time and is likely become spiritual in later days - siva

Regarding whether Lincoln was happy, maybe, before he became president! "Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown". When we acquire the qualities of god (as close to as possible, of course), then we are well on our way to happiness. My way is to disband artificial boundaries - treat others like I like to be treated, if not better. Never be guided by greed or vengefulness - live and let others live. It is said people are happy with others' achievements provided they do not steal a march over them, but I take a stand let them as they reap what they sow. Yes, love in thought and action and we are almost there, but not rubbing shoulders with God himself and then get swatted like a fly! siva
