no fatty liver but...

the doctor doesn't really think i have fatty liver.
if i did, he said just exercise.
i wasn't convinced, so i asked him to give me a request for blood tests to be done.
when i showed him the results, he said the sgpt and sgot values (liver function test) were normal, so my liver is fine.
he feels that the pain in my right ribs is probably costochondritis (arthritic/signs of aging).
that i can just take flanax (naproxen) until it subsides.
maybe i'll ask for an orthopedic referral next time.
my hdl, or the so-called good cholesterol, are high.
as in, if the maximum is 1.68; mine is 2+.
he said not to worry about it, but it still felt strange.
the bun, creatinine and uric acid levels were also normal, which is good, since we have a strong history of diabetes.
as usual, at the lab, they couldn't find my vein. they said it "moves a lot", so they had to draw blood from my right arm.

it's only now that i'm older that they can't seem find it. here, they always start with the left before trying on the right.

it was above normal, that's why there was the letter H next to it. no meds prescribed because he said it's the good cholesterol.
what do you know about costochondritis?

@hereandthere It is an inflammation of costal cartilages. You can have localized pain in your chest area. It can be associated with arthritic conditions such as RA, OA, etc. As your doctor had said, it is secondary to the aging process, too.

This is why I am adding vegetables and fruits from time to time. It's really hard to loose weight when you get older. I wish I didn't disregard my loosing weight back in my younger days. Right now I still has my gout.

@hereandthere good for you. When you have gout, your uric acid is high.

@hereandthere good cholesterol or hdl is okay. but ldl is high, the doctor will give you a medicine to lower it because it will cause hypertension

It's a good news that all you complete blood laboratory are normal, about your rib pain better if you go to cardiologist too for further assessment.

@hereandthere I am hoping it's not heart related but if you have time and HMO then go to cardiologist just to be sure.

i've come to expect it now - the possibility that they'll switch to the right when they struggle with the left.

i was surprised that most are normal, but it was also surprising to have higher than normal HDL (good cholesterol)

I am glad it all looked good to the doc at least, but a second look might be good. My veins are hard to find too. I slap my arm on the way in when I have blood tests.
