My Take on Life

I am into the evening of my life; childhood, student, and working life are behind me. It is human nature to reflect on our ride from time to time. I have no regrets but I do not really know whether I could have made it better. If circumstances were different I would have seen my world in a different light. However, I do not know whether I would have changed much as to who I really am. Life is what we make out of it. Every experience has a positive side to it. It is tough to see it at that time but the message seeps in to mold us. No one is really lucky but some do get more opportunities and the rest is up to us. I let go some with a take let others seize them, I have had my fill. I want to experience life in all its variety and my heroes are the common folks who are mostly contented and survivors. What counts for me above everything else is we remain human wherever we are from. We know what is right from wrong though circumstances make us react differently at times. I doubt if there is anyone who could say they did no wrong to themselves while taking that life's journey. It is not always that decisions are taken with measured steps as that would take the pleasure out of life.

Yeah, we should not be too calculative when it comes to enjoying the moments that come our way. Learn to let go and press on come what may but having learned the lessons along the way - siva

It is very natural to feel like that today when we are enjoying the evening of our life, because we have gained lot of wisdom now which we were lacking as kids.e are more smarter now as the life has taught us a lot of lessons which we never had then. What ever may be the thing...everyone today think that their life could have been a better one...for me no regrets...I missed my seat in medical college by one mark, I pursued my education as a Vet and reached the place what I wanted to be. I had tried my hand at everything I wanted to do...some times I could succeed and other times I failed.... Today I am contended and focus on my profession which is rather a passion for me and enjoy my life! I sincerely Thanks the God for giving me whatever that is require to lead a good and respectable life! Thanks dear friend @Shiva49!

Thanks for your detailed share about how life has worked out for you. My father, brother, and niece are doctors. I was not keen on engineering or medicine and I became a chartered accountant without knowing what it was about to start with. I made the most of the chances that came my way though I did not pursue a demanding career. I have no regrets as I accept the fruits of my effort in good grace - siva

@AKRao24 I try my best to spread some cheer. Let me counter in my own way the cruelty we see in the real world for no reason. We have everything for our need but not the greed as Gandhi said - siva

To me life starts out as a series of blunders, it is how we learn. Sometimes we make the same blunder more than once and therefore it takes longer to learn the lesson but eventually we do learn and then it is simply that we must make the best of what we have been able to accomplish. Of course, in the end, we tend to relive our youth but without the strength we had back then.

Thanks, success lies in learning from our experiences with a positive take. Our attitude decides our altitude in life! When we have the right attitude regrets will not have a place - siva

I am also in the evening of my life. There things I would have liked to have done, but in a whole I like what I did and I would not change a lot should I start again.

@Shiva49 You are right and you remember well. I married my husband when I was only 20 years old and we are still happy together.

@LadyDuck Tolerating one another helps for good relationship. I have read most of your posts and I know you are comfortable in life. We have been married for forty years. We have common interests and also separate ones - siva

You have been writing about the good life you have had. It makes a difference to meet the right persons early in life. I stumbled on till I was on firmer footing in adulthood - siva

@Shiva49 I like your attitude. I have thought about life too and if I could do over again would I do it better. Not sure. If had a better upbringing and better childhood that could be. Maybe then I could have become someone and would be very proud of myself today instead of trying to find where I fit in and belong.

Thanks. the only way I could have been more blessed would be meeting one who could have guided me when I was young. I was sort of rudderless in my formative years. I drifted till I was into adulthood - siva

@Hannihar I have heard from people saying meeting the one person changed their life. There are inspirational teachers to start with. Then there are mentors as we start work. One should be blessed to meet them and be inspired by them - siva

@Shiva49 I understand what you are saying. I had my grandfather for 14 years but after that I had no one to guide me either.

Lately, I often look back whether I missed anything or left somethings undone.. and that I have to go back and finish the job .. The mind is still strong but the physical has no willpower to do anymore ... I am still in the process of making my final take on life ...hopefully I find the real answer to "what is my purpose?"...

I follow the best guide "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Then "less is more" meaning if you have just enough you will cherish them more: too many is just a burden, a liability. What we cherish may not have any value for others, so learn to let go - siva

I think we all have something that we wish we had done differently but given how everything is inter-related, I would not risk changing anything since I like where I am.

Yes, for me it could have also ended much worse than where I find myself in now. I was not one to pursue a working career aggressively. Though I did get my breaks I spurned some for a balanced life. I am more of a 9-5 person. So, in the end, I got what I deserved I feel - siva

My take is similar to yours, and I don't think that there is too much that I would have done differently. I've tried to enjoy my life without hurting others along the way.

I too am in the final season of my life. Though, I hope this season lasts a good long while yet so I can fully enjoy the retirement years. Sometimes I wonder which direction my life would have taken if circumstances had been different in my childhood, but I'm glad they went the way they did to get me where I am today. Life is a gift from God, what I do with it, is my gift to him for all he did for me.

That is a nice way to look at life here after having been given the opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds.Being grateful will guide us the right path. I am happy that I don't have to work till I drop and now I enjoy my own time than be at the beck and call of others like when I was working - siva

Life often reflects itself back to you in the mirror of yourself, via your attitude. Attitude can either distort, or magnify. It is up to you.
Every person works his way through life experiences to find his own truth. Love exists within every experience, and when we see the love in each experience, we also experience the truth within that experience then too. We learn more of God's wisdom, when we live every experience in a learning way. I liked how you put this: "Every experience has a positive side to it. It is tough to see it at that time, but the message seeps in to mold us." Life often reflects itself back to you in the mirror of yourself via your attitude. Attitude can either distort, or magnify. It's up to you. Photo Credit: This photo was sourced from the free media site: pixabay.com

@Shiva49 Yes, that quote is generally pretty true of most people I would think too. Answers provided to us by God, by life, by our higher selves, and by others, when we do not yet have the ears to hear their truth are non-relevant to us, in that we do not use them to see past our own seeing, but at the same time though, we can develop our self from anything like this too, if we try to insert their truth into our own truth, so to speak, and so gain a greater understanding thereby of how our own truth sits within God's greater truth.

@innertalks Yes Steve, having been given a mind to think and understand we should try to make sense of life than get led by others. I keep an open mind and that helps. I follow my inner voice and that is the radar we can rely upon. But then we should also have the right attitude to play our part as a member of the society around us. A questioning mind like you have keeps us alive - siva

Thanks, Steve. The quote “You don't see the world as it is, you see it, as you are” is meaningful. I naturally see the world through my experiences and eyes. I quote the famous line from Tale of Two Cities: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way". There is always the goodness interspersed with the bad We should see the overall picture and feel the love of the creator, then we will appreciate our moments here in the right perspective - siva

Life can be full of what ifs at times, but to dwell on it to much is a waste of time and emotion. And experience is the best teacher they say and there is truth in that statement. We learn from mistakes and do better next time. Spend your time doing things you enjoy and that make you happy. As Robert Frost is quoted as saying "life goes on." (with or without you-DB)

Yes, that is life, in a nutshell, thanks. We are here to take in the sound and the sights for an insignificant moment of creation. We can get transplanted into the future or the past in whatever form. We need to be positive and chip in whenever we can as our contribution however insignificant it might be overall but it still matters at least to us - siva
