Well, first off let me say this about that
….. I really didn’t know that they had stored my credit card info
, I only wanted that one year subscription but not a renewal
Secondly, I know I did not authorize renewing my subscription
. These companies really know how to sock it to ya. Dad gummit, I’ve been SOCKED.
So here's the good news
, I called the company in question and they refunded the charge
.
Butt here's my point, if you do subscribe to something online do one or the other of these two things:
Remove your credit card information the next day
OR
Call them to make sure they do NOT renew your subscription.
I know I know, I shouldn't have done it, right?

Hosted by Dan Rowan and Dick Martin, this ground-breaking variety show was a fast moving barrage of jokes, one-liners, running skits, musical numbers and mad...

Even if you remove your Credit Card information, they stock the info and use them even without your permission. There are "temporary debit cards" issued here, you only credit the amount you want to use them to make a purchase online. Once the purchase (or subscription) is done, you cancel the card. They cannot use it again.

I just saw a charge on my credit card that makes me think something got renewed! Shoot. Have to check that out today.
And last month I noticed I got charged an annual fee just for having an "elite" credit card. Put a stop to that. I am sure I agreed to the card , for some benefit, and had the fee waived for the first year. Then of course I forgot all about it. Had to get New cards!

Sometimes it helps to talk sweetly to the credit card customer service people, sometimes they will actually remove the charge or maybe even get you another year of no annual fee .... that'll give you a year to cancel that card completely.
I've been lucky, none of my cards have an annual fee.

@rebelann they did cancel that fee and the card. They reissued us a card with no fee which is what I thought we had. I didn't look back to see if we paid that far last year. Just annoying to get these offers and then ruin it by my forgetfulness.

Happened to me just a week ago. I was so angry. More so because the email came to me two hours after they closed down the service for the day. I promptly called my bank and asked them to help. The next day I called those people who tried to renew without my permission. They apologized, and that was that (I hope!). I should go checking the transactions, make sure they re-fund the money.

I'm not in any subscription as I don't want that same thing happening to you at all. And it's a good tip, remove all card info.

Thank you, I am as well. Usually the credit companies will protect you but in this case I didn't need to call the credit card company, I just filed a complaint with Hallmark Egift cards and they refunded the money.

The last time I used a credit card for a subscription, I waited until the credit card was just a few weeks from its expiry date. Then even if they wanted to, they needed a new expiry date....

Mine was good for 3 years so that couldn't have worked but since last April, when I'd subscribed, I've learned to remove my credit cards from every site I use them on the day after I use them. Or else I call the card company and tell them I lost the card, that''ll do it too as long as I don't do that too often.

Yes a lot of times that info is in the very fine print. They know what they are doing. But most companies will refund your money with no problems

You're right, most of them do. It's just such a hassle to be taken by surprise like that.

Thats why I never purchase anything online, and anything I subscribe to has an "unsubscribe" option.
