How to Drive in the Colorado Springs Area

One thing that you absolutely need to keep in mind is that nobody else on the road knows how to drive.
Somebody ahead of you driving the speed limit? Tailgate them. If they are driving ten miles over the speed limit? Ride them even closer. It's their fault for being in your way.
Colorado Springs is one of those cities where, for some reason, you get a green light, only to have to stop at the next light. The way to avoid this is by getting to the next light as fast as possible. Still didn't make it? Run it! Stop signs? Mere suggestions.
Pedestrian three quarters of the way through a cross walk? Gun it through. After all, they are in YOUR way, and causing you to lose precious seconds. Same with people trying to merge into traffic. Screw them. Only losers allow others to merge. If you yourself need to merge? Do so at any cost. That's why those people have brakes, and they shouldn't be driving so fast anyway. Same with left hand turns. Go for it, no matter how many cars are coming in the opposite direction.
What's that? The bus needs to get back in to traffic? Screw that. The bus is just full of poor people that can't afford cars. Who cares if they don't get to where they are going on time. Not you.
And as for cyclists, get as close to them as possible. After all, they are the ones breaking all the rules.
Welcome to Colorado Springs, home of safe driving. Don't worry. You're going to fit right in here!
Contrary to popular belief, I do still exist, I'm just too busy to edit anything, and don't drive often either. Four more weeks of that and then I'm going ba...

Based upon the comments, it's like this in a lot of places. Sad that everyone is in such a hurry.

I avoided Colorado Springs as much as possible when I lived in Colorado. I was in Lakewood and when I had to go to LaJunta, I would go through Limon just so I didn't have to drive the highway through the Springs. There is always construction going on there and the people drive just as you explained it. lol

@teamfreak16 I know that area, were you on the side where the Bennigans used to be? We lived just west of Jewell and Kipling. There were a lot of crazy drivers there but the Springs takes the prize.

@cintol - No, it was on the other side of Hampden. There's a really good steakhouse/bar right there, but the name escapes me at the moment.

I lived in Lakewood for a few years. Hampden and Wadsworth area. There's a big field with a bike path right there on Wadsworth. We lived right off of that field. As busy as that area is, I never saw anything near as bad as it is down here.

I thought we had crazy drivers. I think I drove in Colorado once and that was so long ago I cannot remember what it was like. Here the drivers are impatient when they have to sit and wait for a light to change and right when it changes they start honking not giving the cars time to get going.

Wait. I thought you were describing Colorado Springs. Why did you go on to describe San Francisco Bay Area Drivers. You forgot one thing: If you cause an accident, and your car receives only minor damage, leave the scene of the accident immediately and head to the nearest chop shop to get it repaired.

Exactly. It's not your fault the other guy was driving so badly!

That sounds like a terrifying place to drive, but it seems that everywhere too many people forget courtesy and flaunt the law. San Antonio was scary when I was there in April and local drivers are not much better here in Oregon.

To those azz riders, I will slow down to a crawl until you can get around then I stomp the gas so you cannot pass me, until ...yes. Lucky I have not been shot.
But on the interstate I can be driving in the fast lane at 85-90 clear ahead and out of no where someone will pass me.
Anniston sounds like your town.

It's different on the freeway. I drive fast on there, but here in town I drive about ten miles over the limit when I do speed. And I don't tailgate.

Oh, believe me, I'm a safe driver. I don't tailgate, I use my turn signals, things that seem to be foreign concepts here.

@teamfreak16 Oh yeah, since you posted it I assumed the issue was with others.
Here too it seems to be getting worse. Especially the "yuppy" area my parents live in. Rude drivers..... poor drivers...

Driving in Colorado Springs sounds a lot like driving in Fort Myers, Florida, lol. Massive traffic, long lights, and many left hand signals and tourists are the major culprits...

I almost got into an accident after I wrote this. A guy pulled a U-turn right in front of me (nobody behind me. Could have waited.) Then he tried to force me off the road so that he could get into my lane.

@teamfreak16 In Florida they actually have lanes for U-turns on the highway. Actually that is a good feature to avoid what happened to you! As one police sergeant used to say: "Lets be careful out there." (From TV series Hill Street Blues)
