Does your emoji mean what you think it means?

For instance, let's say Donald Trump was in a horrific vehicle accident, and was in critical condition in a hospital.
And you post a story about it on your facebook page.
And someone comments with the above emoji.
And you think they are offering prayers.
Don't be too sure about that.
It seems this emoji is also used to represent two people 'hi-fiving' each other.
Suddenly, it takes on a meaning completely different than what you may have assumed it meant.
I guess it would depend upon the political leaning of the person that posted the emoji.

There are quite a few I am unsure of, even when I know what is meant, sort of. Like "woot" and "ninja". Could you publish an encyclopedia of emoji's. I do know "poop" when I see it.

@GardenGerty When I first saw the poop emoji I thought it was soft chocolate ice cream.
And I kept on thinking that until someone pointed out to me that it's poop.

I always assume 'woot' to be surprise and I use the 'ninja' for schneaky

@JolietJake I use 'ninja' for dark, bottomless situations. High-yah! Karate chop to the neck

I'm pretty sure I'd know what it meant if you used it in a comment about something happening to Trump

@JolietJake I do not know, but I have seen many commenting on food post and using the rasp while saying "yummy, I am drooling".

I know what it means, it means blowing a raspberry, hence 'rasp'. Why people can't figure that out

Technically it can only represent prayer, or a high five when the two high-fivers use the opposite hands. The absence of any visible thumbs implies both high-fivers can't be using the same hand. It could also imply one, or both, have had a thumb amputated!!!

@JolietJake So the emoji could also mean 'mutant praying' or 'mutants high-fiving'. Such a versatile little emoji that one!!!

They apparently also only have two fingers on each hand

@WorDazza Or it could be the hands as held in a Chinese greeting of your Sensei

The problem is, if you hold your hands together in prayer, your thumbs would be visible to you

That was an emoji originally from iOS users. A lot of people used that as a sign of prayer but it was actually created not as praying hands but a 'high five.'

Yep. You can't always be sure what someone is trying to say with it.

I would definitely go for the high five in his case

@JolietJake And right now......I'd like to reply that you are crazy, but without typing the text, but cannot. Even an emoji that looks like a nut bar would work

It seems Whatsapp and several other sites list it when you search 'pray' or 'hi five'

If your username reflects the year you were born, I wouldn't say you were 'too old' because I was born very early in the same year

It annoys me sometimes when they only post the emoji because you don't really get what they were saying.

I actually thought it was a high-five emoji not a praying hands one.

Very good points many brought up...I like to look at the meaning of emojis to make sure I used the right one. Just to look at them I'd guess that these pair of hands were praying, wrong of course.
