Helping others by raising funds or sharing details: Love it or hate it?

We often help others raise funds they need for car repairs, food, housing, sick humans or sick pets. Some hate the idea of others asking for needed funds.
When it comes to raising funds, it is understood that some are just takers and really don't deserve what they are asking us to donate. However, people we have met with sick children (often living in a hospital) and those about to lose a job because of transportation are ones we try to help.
For us, those with a sick dog might also be on our list of people who will get a few dollars.
Not that we have a ton of money to share, but one fundraiser we are involved in now we asked people to share $5 or share the information if they could.
Just sharing the information about a family that might have their lives unravel because they won't have transportation or insurance could make the difference for them.
Not everyone cares, not everyone shares-and that is fine. We have asked the haters to comment elsewhere and most of us sharing have been fortunate to keep the trolls away!
Some have really been hateful over the years, making fun of sick pets, sick humans, those living in cars and handicapped children. Really? Is that the person they want to be remembered as when they are gone?

That is a wonderful job you are doing! I sincerely appreciate the concern you have for the needy and the deserved people! But it is the human nature to avail the advantage if it is coming without any efforts ....for that you need to be careful, as have encountered few people taken advantage from me , which I have realized when I have spotted them telling the same stories to others to make money from them! Thanks @PatZAnthony !

@PatZAnthonyzation! That is a nice thing to do! Otherwise because of these free riders the needy can get deprived and the purpose of the organization can get defeated! Thanks and all the best!

@AKRao24 Generally, we always know who is sincere and who is not. There was this family that came to Chilkur balaji temple because they had heard so much about it, and I happened to be around that day. In the queue, somebody stole the lady's purse. She was left with no monies to return to her home town, all her tickets etc., were stolen. She approached the priest. The priest requested people spare whatever you can. I gave her some, and she felt she had enough and was about to leave the temple. I asked her what time is the train, she said sometime in the evening. You are speaking of a woman with two children in April-May, in Hyderabad, with nothing in their bellies till the following morning. I told her to hang on for another two hundred, as children would need food, and she would need enough to call her folks to the Station. It never occurred to her! So panicked was she. And I watched her from corner of the temple. Her head was bent down all the while as she accepted 10's and 5's. Pity I only had a 100 extra on me on that day. Helping is good, but right person. Not somebody willing to take others for a ride.

Yes @AKRao24 we are careful. This does not mean some have not taken advantage of us, but we really try to learn what is going on before we give help.

We are not offering help to those who choose not to work, but to those who are deathly ill or need transportation assistance to get to work, those with children about to die.

Yes @rebelann some are so strangely cruel. Things that are said often don't even make sense to us.

Where there is a genuine need I will help...but asking for money for your dream wedding or honeymoon....a NEW house.....or something along those lines....I think they are irresponsible and greedy.

That is cruel, making fun of the needs, that other people have! Even an animal, is important to a normal, family oriented individual. I donated funds to a family, with a baby that was dying of cancer. Her treatments were in Chicago, and the parents had to bring her there, four days a week! To begin with, they were a poor family. With this need, it was obviously real!

There are so many thinking that insurance, etc. will take care of all expenses Just so not true!
We had family members traveling to the hospital out of the area to be with their sick child-It was a nightmare.
They met people who lost their jobs, homes, cars b/c they were staying at the hospital with a child about to die. This should not happen, but it does again and again.

@kobesbuddy It is a terrible thing some have to deal with. How some can be cruel about these issues amazes me.

I like the GoFundMe campaigns, as well as those other sites. Animals get me as well as little children, and women with cancers that usually just affect women. I have made many five dollar donations over time. The last two I contributed was someone's pet that needed surgery, and a family whose premature baby was in the ICU, and born with only half a heart. Sadly, after nine months in the hospital, the baby went to Heaven. Thankfully, enough had been raised to cover everything for the family, including enough money to allow the mother to take a month off work to grieve and comfort her other three children.

Sharing can be a big help. Strangers have come forward with our recent effort and donated. Every bit helps.

I help people that I know really need the help. Some are just out for what they can get. So you have to make sure you help those that really need the help.

So far, so good @LadyDuck
Isn't it sad that some enjoy causing misery by trolling the internet and leaving rude comments?

@YrNemo
There are several groups that help with fundraising, such as You Caring. That is the type of group she might want to connect with.
For us, this is just family and friends trying to help where we see a need.
