The Prodigal Son comes home...

...minus a collar, a lead, a clip and a swivel.
Scar broke loose about 5:30 this morning...I spent a few hours searching the neighborhood, but didn't find anything but a possum, a rabbit, and other cats.
Had to go to work for a bit around 8, so I left the doors open to the house so he could get in if he showed up while I was gone.
Nope.
So I spent the next 6 hours after I got home going out every 20 minutes or so and walking around calling for him.
Nope.
I went several blocks in each direction, about a half-mile each way up and down the railroad tracks.
Nothing.
Not a 'meow' to be heard.
And around 3 this afternoon, I had gone out looking...nothing.
So I posted on facebook I still hadn't found him...and 5 minutes later, after Dad showed up and I was talking to him, I looked out and Scar was nonchalantly strolling across the end of the yard down by the tracks.
Don't know where he left the lead and collar at.
But he's home..and I went to WallyWorld for a new collar and lead, because 5 minutes later he was ready to go out again.
But after almost 10 hours, he finally made it home.

@JolietJake Could Scar possibly be chewing on that lead, until it breaks?

@JolietJake I guess I´d go out of my mind if I had a cat. They are so independent that it would drive me crazy.

@JolietJake My boy would go out on one of his "adventures" and then sleep for like a day straight.

@JolietJake and maybe whoever finds his 25ft lead will return it to you, instantly recognizing who it belongs to

@hereandthere He broke one end off, but the collar, clip and swivel would be salvageable

The longest it had ever taken to find him during his several escapades was about 30 minutes...I was going insane with worry after the first few hours

I am glad he came back. I know how that feels. Is it possible someone "freed" him of his collar and lead and clip etc.? Plus the swivel? It just feels like that is an awful lot of stuff for him to shed on his own.

Nope, the collar is extremely loose for this specific reason.

I'm so glad Scar came back!! You know, I came back to Mylot after a few months away partly because I was wondering what Scar was up to! I had no idea. Lol. Glad he is OK.

People keep asking if I am gonna use a harness now instead of a collar...I guess they miss the point that he was dragging 25 ft of lead behind him, and tangled it up somewhere...but was able to slip the collar over his head to get loose, which is how I have it set. With a harness, he couldn't have gotten loose to come home.
But yep...black kitties in the future somewhere...

@JolietJake That I am very glad to hear. That he got loose from it. That could have been a disaster.

He came from the east somewhere...I had walked that way three blocks calling several times, and walked the tracks east about a half mile. Somewhere there, he tangled the lead he was dragging. Still don't know where it is.

Did he tell you all about his adventure? How the heck did he remove all that from his body?

I keep his collar loose enough that it can slip over his head if his lead gets trapped on something

I'm SO glad he did make his way back home. Can't help but wonder if you asked him where he had been all that time, I often wish our "darlings" could speak to us when something happens to them

Cats have a tendency to wander the neighborhood in hopes of finding more food, or maybe a playmate. I am glad he came back as I can imagine, you were so worried, wondering where he was and what happend to him. I know if I had a cat and that happened, I would be rantic. I go nuts when my dog gets out as she will take off, and I call and call, and I figure she will come hoem when she is ready, and she does. She will go to the fromt door, and sit and bark, waiting for me to let her in. I sure do scold her for beding gone, but on the other hand I love her and hug her too.

@JolietJake I am not sure what we have here as far as an ordinance about cats. I do know with dogs, if they are left to run loose, then they are picked up and taken to the shelter. Here if dogs are abandoned, then people go to jail and are prosecuted.

There is also a city ordinance against cats running 'at large' here

He busted out and had a good time before returning home to detention. Seriously, I experienced a cat going AWOL like that and there's nothing much you can do but wonder.
