What Types of News Attract your Attention?

I read the headlines but skip those that look depressing. I am not into politics as I feel rather helpless to have a say. In a way, politicians use us as tools and play on raw emotions. I would rather be left alone than take sides for their sake!
I tend to get uneasy reading unpleasant news as they leave a pall of gloom. I want to know the reality of life but rather not in great detail!
I am comfortable to read about people overcoming heavy odds and come up in life. I follow sports and, like most others, I have few favorites.
I want to know about the world in general, news of latest developments, and understand the gist various beliefs. I find solace that despite our different cultures and background we remain the same with similar feelings and emotions.
What is your take on the daily news though some feel like a tightening noose?

@Shiva49 No ..no...it is kind of ..keeping up to date with the options. That is how I came to know that HDFC Ergo has a health policy for elderly. My father never took health policy and that sure has me worried, I managed to take a 400000 INR through different companies, but there is co payment, and I would have been more comfortable if he had around 1200000 coverage. It is also a safer territory where the blood does not boil.

@vandana7 I was not talking about you Vanny, rest assured.
What I was highlighting was about how wealth is like a jealous mistress/girlfriend for a man, or the other way for a woman.
I was monitoring forex and stocks and they play on our minds without respite.
Of course, I want to be up to date on the financial news but most I take only a cursory look now fearing I may get sucked in - siva

Was a finance guy all my life and it consumed all my time!
Money should be our slave but too much of it enslaves us; we become the prisoner though it takes no prisoners!
Now I want to enjoy the little things and wonder at nature and humans.
Smell the roses too as it may not grow where I am headed for! siva

I basically don't care about the news about politics. I like to watch news about the development of science and technology. The news filled me with hope for the future.

I like human interest stories, funny news, happy news, sports, music and health topics. Unpleasant news is indeed unpleasant.... News is just so biased today. Facts are just skewed to that networks talking points. The days of accurate fact checking and verifying your sources have gone the way of the National Inquirer. Well, I'm sensationalizing a bit, but it's like monkey see, monkey do, isn't it?

@Shiva49 I see the political dramas as a sad circus and the intensity is more during election time

Morning Newspaper is the first thing I pick up after coming back from my morning exercise. I try to avoid depressing news and unfortunately in India, newspapers are full of that. So I skip the main pages and straight way go to editorial page and read some good articles. "Speaking Tree" In Times of India is my first read of the day and then I go to Sports and Entertainment pages. Depressing News are the last one. I skip them or read them post lunch.

Thanks for your take.
It so happens depressing news appear on the front page. We have to pretend not seeing them, or not allow them to sink in. We need to know them just to be in the loop.
Agreed, our leaders say how good they are and how bad others are, and soon the shoe is on the other foot. And we are caught in between! siva

There are so many news that bring sadness - murders and other crimes. The political news are still a must for being informed. However my interest lies in Sports, Economics, Technology, General Business and Scientific breakthroughs.

@Shiva49 well I am a bit cynical and looks like we would have to wait for the true leader.

I generally do not go beyond the headlines when it comes to political news. However, I do what I can to keep the dark forces from dominating our lives like it threatens to do at every election. The basic fact is we come alone, leave alone, and are left to fend for ourselves in this increasingly selfish world of ours.
Like you, I too am interested in what you have stated but also in our various beliefs, alien influences, etc. I believe we are influenced and guided by others. Even our beliefs could have originated from sources beyond our comprehension. We are left in peace for the time being though we stray away from the basics of unity in diversity. Scientific breakthroughs like storage of renewable energy will change our landscape from what we are used to now. Then fossil fuels will be left underground increasingly with less of pollution
Only when we move away from the present dimension of hatred and disunity, our true potential will be realized. A true leader will arise anytime to unite us - siva

I have borrowed two books from the library:
1. A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety by Jimmy Carter
2. The Trump White House: Changing the Rules of the Game by Ronald Kessler
Their personalities are poles apart.
Carter had a tough life all through while Trump just lives it up!
It takes all types to make a world, or destroy it! siva

I would rather read, or hear about something factual, as I am not into fiction, so I usually watch the news, to catch up with what's going on in the world.
I am basically like this because on the one hand I am rather afraid of the world, and what is going on in it around me right now, but to be informed is to be half armed, and so I like to keep at least a bit of this awareness of the current state of the World, in my mind, so it can be defensively applied when I (and if I ever) need it most in my life.

TV often blanks our mind out to a grey line, at least the news colours this up a bit, if even if it just makes it blacker. Anything is better than grey, I suppose.

@Shiva49 We have our fair share of copy-cut nutters here too. We have had a few people driving their cars through crowds of people, killing pedestrians at random here too.
Souls are everywhere, experimenting with life, and some take great risks at other's expenses, and this is not good, incurs karma, and scares the others, because it is not acting from love, but from lust, masquerading as obsession, instead.

@innertalks Driving vehicles through the crowd is not an isolated incident. It has happened in Europe, and in Canada recently. Why some act in such a way is beyond belief. They have no iota of love left in them then - siva

It is said knowledge is power. Benjamin Franklin said - an investment in knowledge pays the best interest.
However, we have taken things too far. We know the price of everything at our fingertips but the value of nothing! It is information overflow now resonating with - if you cannot convince, confuse and befuddle!
At least, Steve, you are far away from trouble. Most others can be caught in between as some leaders have fingers itching to press the button that says "to hell with it" - siva
