@ElusiveButterfly is a good detective, more about Hatley

I called Hatley's cell phone, it is no longer in service. I called Westminster Villa, and the number I got was some kid who only answered because my number from Kansas came up and he thought I might be a friend from KU. I got the number online, from two different sites and it was Totally Wrong. After some research, I found another number for the retirement home. I called and was told the number had been changed and that the new number was unknown. @ElusiveButterfly had messaged me with a number for a rehab center in southern California, because that is where Robby said she was. EB got it right. I called and they connected me to Hatley. Technically they should not have due to privacy laws, but they did. She could not hear me very well and needed to go soon, but she KNOWS that we here at myLot are worried for her. She sounded good. But there is a problem. Patsie just was told that Westminster Villa will no longer accept her as a resident. She has to find a new home, and find a way to get her things. I think they just told her yesterday or today. She is in Seal Beach, and the only way her son can get there is to find someone with a car to take him. If she had a place to stay, I would try to come up with time and money to go move her myself. Patsie says she can stay at the Rehab center until she has a new place to go, and that they are really nice to her. Do not get the wrong idea about her former place. If she requires more care than they can provide they CANNOT keep her there. It is licensed as an assisted living facility, not a Long Term Care or Health Care facility. It probably was out of their hands and all up to Medicare and Medicaid or who ever. I told you guys I would post more, so now you have it.

If this was a movie we would be forming a convoy starting in New England headed west to help Patsie find a new place and get moved. She is worrying about her computer at Westminster.

@MarshaMusselman Her son lacks a lot of resources, and I do not know if they would release it to him. He would have to find someone to drive him to pick it up, that is for sure.

@GardenGerty is that something her son could pick up and keep safe for her? Or maybe that's not a good idea either?

She should try to find an advocate in the community for the elderly. Here we have a service for the elderly that will help her find a new place that will accommodate her needs. The social worker at the rehab should be setting these things up for her. Hopefully they will find a place closer to where here son resides so he may visit her more often. I am glad that you were able to connect with her. Thank you for doing so. You have a big heart lady.

In Kansas that would be an Ombudsman. Yes, Social Services at the rehab is likely helping her, but that would be a suggestion.

I'm glad you explained that because at first I was hurt for her about them telling her she has to go elsewhere-at least it does make sense even if it's not the ideal situation. Gosh, poor Hatley. =( I wish things were better for her. I will be praying for her and her situation with housing. Thank you for updating us!

It is nice of you to give some updates. It has been a long that I haven't seen her. The last time I've heard she had a fall accident.

I am sure the fall and the diabetes and her overall failing eyesight and hearing made it necessary. It does feel rotten, though.

The facilities, even the ones like Westminster are the worst for people who do not have regular visitors checking in on them.

It did seem very creepy about Westminster. Seal Beach was a piece of cake, as Sarina had looked it up.

@GardenGerty Yes, elderly ones need people who care for their interests but sadly at times they are neglected and abused.

This is heartbreaking. I am wondering if we could get her a tablet, they are so inexpensive these days and with the tablet, she could go online. Just a thought, I would love to be able to help her in some way.

Actually Netbooks are so inexpensive now, and the screen is large enough that I can see it without without my glasses without too much trouble. When my house burned down Bill got me both a tablet and a netbook to keep me on track with my communications with both the business and all my friends. Netbooks start around $75 (or less) and can go up to about $150.

Thanks for this information. I'd not heard that she wasn't at the residence currently. Was she in rehab because of her wrist or other reasons? I'm sure they will help her move also. When my husband spent a few months in a long term care/rehab facility in 2014, they drove him to appointments two hours away until he could bend his legs to get into a car. Has she been there all this time do you think?

@MarshaMusselman You know there is no provision in medicare or medicaid for glasses, dentures, or hearing aids. We do not take care of our elderly well at all, and I am one.

Great job in tracking her, you should be a detective. Sorry to hear she has to find a new place to live, she will probably have to move into an assisted living home where she can get the help she will need to recover

Westminster Villa was an assisted living placement. She called it retirement home but it is licensed as Assisted Living. I think she probably needs a health care facility with more health care professionals on site.

@cintol I know that in Kansas there are assessments that a person must be given to see if they can safely stay in a certain level of care.

@GardenGerty That could be, they are probably thinking more of a nursing home for her then if assisted living can no longer take care of her.
