What items do your gremlins currently possess? They hid my car keys for two weeks!

Everyone knows that there are gremlins in all of our houses, taking things from us and hiding them, sometimes in plain sight. For some reason, it seems that the older we get, the more gremlins we have in our houses. A couple of weeks ago, I was ready to drive to work, and noticed that my car keys were not in my shorts pocket, where they belonged. Fortunately, my back-up keys were where they were supposed to be, so off to work I went. Upon returning home from work, I took a small sniff of cocaine, lit up my pipe, and sat in my comfy chair, gazing out the window. A friend named Dr. Watson entered without knocking, saw me in my deliberative state, and left without saying anything. Things usually get lost when there's a break in routine, I mused. I had done laundry, so I checked the laundry room and the shorts I had been wearing the previous week. Nothing. I had gone swimming with my young friend, so I checked my swimming shorts, or so I thought. Nothing. Yesterday, I went swimming. I noticed something "heavy" in the pocket of my swimming shorts. Apparently, although my thought processes had led me to the correct conclusion, I had not checked my swimming shorts thoroughly enough. The gremlins yielded, and I had my main set of car keys back. I had the car keys in there because I had gone to my vehicle to retrieve my sunglasses on the way to the pool. All I'm missing now are about a dozen guitar picks, one guitar strap, a guitar stand, and a bottle of car polish, that I also use on my guitars. What material objects do your gremlins currently possess? How long do they usually keep your things? Can you hear them cackling late at night?

@thehorse They snuck off with my virginity years ago and I’ve never got it back. Looked everywhere for it.

I don't mind that loss. But I go through periods where I feel I may have gotten it back.

@TheHorse yes, I do believe it grows back after a while if you aren’t careful.

There are several mischievous gremlins in my house. They take wallets, keys, cell phones, and hide them. Then, we search and after a couple of days of this, the item shows up in an area we searched thoroughly earlier. A credit card was missing so long that I reported it lost, it was canceled and a new one sent. That is when the old one showed up right where I always keep it. Grrrrrrr!

@TheHorse Yep, they hide things. My keys were missing for days. They turned up twisted in with the bed sheets. I do not sleep with keys.

@TheHorse I have an interesting story about some missing pills that I found later in the same place I searched thoroughly. Something weird is happening in my house.

They do work in mysterious ways, don't they? I had already checked the swimming shorts where my keys turned up.

I know they took something recently, but I can't remember what... maybe it was my memory? Usually, I yell at them to give it back (whatever "it" is) and they'll reluctantly obey... eventually.

given how many unpaired socks I have, they are feeding on my footwear big time

@TheHorse I do that with near matching socks and if not going anywhere important I don't care if the socks are odd

Oh, I forgot about that one. It's why I buy white socks only. If I squish them down, you can't tell that they don't match. Heh.

@TheHorse Too bad when we cannot find things that we do not have a tracker on them so we can find them easily. I would say my Sophie is the only gremlin in our home and she does not thankfully hide my things.

@TheHorse When I am home she likes to be with me and get petted. She finds some toys she loves to play with alone and there are things she plays with me. When I get home she is laying by the door to greet me. I think she sleeps alot while I am gone.

They prefer my red pens, because those are the ones I need for grading. The gremlins' cousins make good pens go bad just when you need them.

@TheHorse Oh yes, I know I just put them where I use to put my pens and the one that I use most of the time is gone, a week later I found it under my working table.

So Mr. Sherlock this is how you got back your car keys. Right now the gremlins have nothing of my stuff, a lot of my husband. I do not search anymore, his problem.

The little buggers have been busy here lately. The most recent thing they've hidden is a pair of reading glasses. I'm totally ignoring the virginity debate. I heard that you shouldn't worry if you lose your keys. But you should worry if, after finding them, you don't know what to do with them.

belly balls (navel piercing), socks, hair ties, and sometimes other jewelry. When my mother and I were cleaning out the old couch, she found one of my belly balls.

The gremlins made off with the lovely ring that Vince bought me a year or two ago. I suddenly noticed it missing and had absolutely no idea where it could have gone. It really seemed pointless to even start looking for it. Then, yesterday I look a week's washing to the park laundry and found it in among the clothes. I've put it away for the moment and might try to get it made a bit smaller.

They have a pajama top. I have searched everywhere. They have a bag of mine that I like. Did I leave it somewhere? Is my pajama top in it? I had to go buy a kayak paddle today so I could paddle. How does a paddle disappear? Hubby helps me put it away, one of us should have noticed if the paddle was missing. How does one lose a kayak paddle?

My God, your gremlins sound like demons. I mean, come on. You start messing with my guitar stuff and it is war. Currently I have gremlins in my truck. Radio is out and breaks needed to be fixed. Plus a tire sensor fault came on. Ugh.

Hi Colin. I am trying to remember. I think it is my brain that they currently got from me. Wonder why I have a hard time thinking lately.

The gremlins work in mysterious ways. Maybe they enter our brains while we sleep and munch on this neural pathway and that.

Gremlins? What gremlins? My photographic memory keeps those things at bay. They know they are defeated.
