The Season for "In-Season" Fruit and Veggies is Here!

Starting with yummie, strawberries that even smell divine, the "In Season" Season is here and it kicks off a few months of natural fruit delights that grow locally! I love the fresh, Ontario strawberries that are harvested now and look for the tasty home-grown, organic ones that are now readily available and at a better price than usual. Although, like my mother I can't eat too many or I can get canker or 'acid sores' in my mouth like she did. Then the cherries are so good too that come out a bit later although I find they are always expensive. However, I do treat myself because they are so good for us and are so tasty! Peaches and plums come out around the end of July and into August and are followed by my favourite- those wild, small blueberries that are like gold because it's the only time of year they can be bought wild and natural from our forests and woodlands. Not to mention tomatoes in August that are fabulous and of course peaches and cream or any type of sweet corn too! "in-Season" is the best time to get all these great foods and it's too bad they can't be in Season all year round! What's your fave In-Season fruit or veggie?

I bought peaches today, they are in season here now as well as the strawberries and apricots. The plums will come next month, with the figs. I think that my tomatoes will be ready to be picked up in 10 to 12 days.

@MarymargII I grow my own tomatoes, I was outside watering the plants a few minutes ago. They are still green, but there are plenty.

Just about any fruit, except cherries, is my favorite 'in season' fruit. Tomatoes would be my favorite home grown vegetable. There's just no comparison to those bought in the store.

When fruit is 'in season' it seems to have much more taste than at other times. It's not quite the same now we can access most fruits year round.

@MarymargII I had some lovely tomatoes this year but they were into self-sacrifice. I swear I could hear them saying 'eat me, eat me'.

They are so good at their real peak though- aren't they--- think tomatoes, etc. Give me a few times for "In-Season" fruits, etc. in Australia. Of course, you are already in trouble for your treatment of lettuce and other endangered veggies. lol!

@MarymargII Thanks for letting us know when things are in season where you are. I never know what is in season here or not in Jerusalem. I guess I just go to the grocery store and see if they have what I want or not.

You are so lucky, not many people grow fruit of any kind here, it's way too hot and would require a green house for those that can afford one and has the green thumb to grow stuff. I rely on frozen fruit, thankfully those are easier to get.

I love summer fruits and veggies too. I pretty much like all of the summer fruits especially watermelon, cantaloupe, all berries, peaches (yum yum) When it comes to veggies I love zucchini and of course tomatoes are plentiful.

In our family we must have some seasonal fruit after main meals. We have our own varieties of those fruits in our region.

Mangoes, since that's the fruits we often have here, mostly December will be the harvest day. Lots of fruits you have there. Enjoy your day.
