Usually I like to keep my posts to one theme overall , with the exception of my "journals" or "goals" postings... but this time I just couldn't stick to one thing, so I sat down and Imagined what it was that all of my topics had in common - and that is that they could all be useful life shortcuts, or life hacks.
1) Dollar stores are springing up all over the place here. And for the most part they offer a good value for the $1. However there are some things that should be avoided at a $1 store. Enter - electronics. For example, I recently fell for a smartphone speaker. Why not? It's only $1. Well, when I got it home and plugged it into my phone, it was actually more quiet than just playing music on my phone without the speaker.
2) As you guys might remember from my "drinking water" post - I am trying desperately to get more water in, which is a good goal for most people! Though some run into the same issue I have been, in that - water. is. boring. So here's 2 thoughts.
Mix fruits in a glass jar of water in the fridge. I had been using just lemon, just lemon, just cucumber - for a long time. Now I have been using lemon cucumber - and it's fantastic.
After a lot of reading on the topic - it would seem that Crystal Lite, and Kool Aid do count to your water consumption during the day. Of course the sites I read almost unanimously suggested that one should keep one's water intake mostly water and just alittle Crystal Lite or Kool Aid since there is sugar or chemicals in those.... but a little variety goes a long way.
As a side note: my favorite flavor of Crystal Lite is "Strawberry Watermelon" It is delightful.
3) Always have a water bottle in your fridge with optional fruit soaking in it. That way you can easily grab it when you are going out for your day and you won't be tempted to go buy a soda elsewhere when you're thirsty.
Hope I have been able to provide some helpful hints. :-)

SO strange but true --- the headphones were quiet, so was the mini speaker. Go figure? Get what you pay for in that respect

@AKRao24 Likely no - since technically they did work... just not very well at all. :/ Good thought though

Well, it's always interesting to read what people do to look after challenges in their life. I always drink water as it comes. I have been doing so for years. I guess I got used to the taste and I always drink it at room temperature and I prefer it that way.

@FayeHazel Do you drink any special water? I have come to love the taste of distilled water.

@1hopefulman Hm, I haven't paid attention to the taste of different water. Wait, take that back. For awhile I liked the Dasani brand, not sure what was different about it though

I have found $ store to be good value for other things - paper products, some cleaners, etc - but not for other things.
I love room temp water too!

@FayeHazel I haven't tried lime and cucumber but it seems a good choice.

I tried some ear plugs which were less than satisfactory. Yes, electronic bargains for a dollar just don't cut it. I enjoy lemon in my water also. I also big on making my own ice tea, which contains mostly water. Some nice ideas there!

Ah yes, I tried, but you are right … you get what you pay for with the $1 store electronics - and… well... $1 isn't much.
A little splash of lemon flavor in the water sure does help, doesn't it?
What kind of iced tea do you like? I like black but usually make green because of the supposed health benefits

@FayeHazel I've tried green tea but just could not acquire a taste for it
So, mine is classic black, an old recipe my mother taught to me. No rocket science, easy peasy

I like herbal teas. And some black teas that are flavored, but no sugar. Of course they are pricier than doing it yourself. Real Leaf Peach tea is one of those. I do not like my tea or my water sweetened.

Oh that's a good hint. I used to like the "Red Zinger" tea which I think is simply a hibiscus tea. That peach tea sounds good too

Ah you and the cat prefer cold water?
I find that Crystal Lite is less sweet , other than that I think it is Kool Aid packaged for adults. lol

You are wise. Not only do you drink enough water that way, it saves so much money

Love dollar stores. Great bargains galore. But it still pays to shop. For example, at the Dollar Tree they are selling Ultr-Brite toothpaste for, of course, a dollar. But it's 97 cents at Walmart. As for the water idea, I like this. Whatever you have to do to increase the water intake. Water is pretty important.

You have a good point - not everything is actually cheaper at the $1 store.
Also not everything is cheaper at big discount stores like Costco or Sam's Club

@FayeHazel No. No matter where you go, it always pays to shop around and know your prices before you buy. A good deal is not always a good deal.

Oo! A bonus reason to like lemon water then :-)
Oh that's strange. Yeah why no tin foil?
