I was okay until SHE came in

I do not know who she is. I am not sure what the name of her perfume is, but it one that always makes me ill and grosses me out. Of course she had too much on. Friday after I brought hubby home from the hospital and started doing laundry, we discovered that running the washer causes both our toilets to back flow and the tub as well. I had to soak up tons of messy water with huge towels, and a set of sheets that I had been going to wash. I put the wet towels and such in a basket. Today I went to the closest laundry and stuck a couple of loads of wash in. Hubby has slept in one of the spare beds and there was some drainage or something on the comforter. I had to wash it. I want to leave the spare beds set up for when I have company again so I also had to wash those sheets. Laundromats are not fun places, but mostly I had this one to myself. It had air conditioning, so it was not too bad as far as being hot and steamy from the wash. As my two giant washers were spinning out, at different times and rates, two men and a woman brought in a bunch of wash. Before she ever got in the door, I could smell her perfume. I already am suffering from congestion caused either by allergies or a cold. My nose is stuffy and runny alternating. I was so glad when my machines finished and I could walk out the door with my wash and come home to dry it. I do not like cheap, stinky perfume.

My uncle uses febreeze like it's his own signature cologne. I can be halfway down the hallway, headed towards the den (where he sleeps) and turn right back around and go to my room. That smell gets into my lungs and it burns. As for perfume, subtlety is best. My aunt's mother in law used to wear (I'm not sure that she still does) to cover the smell of her smoking. It was horrendous! As an aside, some dryer sheet scents get to me as well.

All those things can be bad for your lungs and actually are hormone disruptors. I put white vinegar in my rinse dispenser. I mix up my own powdered laundry concoction. I will put some essential oils in, but do not need to. I am sure some of what I put in my soap has some fragrance, but by the time I add borax and washing soda there is hardly any smell at all.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I just put some essential oils in a sprayer with water. I have not bought any hydrosols. I do know you can use hydrosols on your cats but not essential oils.

@GardenGerty I can believe that it's a hormon disruptor. I try to tell him he doesn't need to be putting it on his clothes, but he doesn't listen. I have a hydrosol that I will use to spray my clothes if necessary. I am slowly but surely trying to make ALL of my own beauty product.

That is the worst when someone has too much perfume on in a small place and it smells awful. I can't handle the candle isle at the store with so many scents going together. Glad you got to take it home to dry and not spend any more time there

I THINK I know what this particular scent is, but many bother me as I grow older.

Just because it's stinky doesn't necessarily mean it's cheap. But I know what you mean. I'm allergic to many scents, some of them quite pricey.

If it is the genuine article of what I believe it is, it is pricey. I just know that many stores carry the knock off fragrance that "smells like" the pricey one. I will not say what it is, because someone here may like it.

@GardenGerty Yes, not everyone is allergic and don't understand our reaction.

Perfumes do put me off specially if one has an over doze of it. And if it is mixed with sweat that is another story (lol)

Imagine singing in a church choir, in robes, in the summer time, with a multitude of fragrance. We made rules and reminded people, men and women, to come fragrance free when I sang in the choir.

@GardenGerty This happens all the time specially at functions. And in a closed environment that can be quite unsettling. Good you have rules.

@allknowing That was some time back, when I lived in a different town. I have been in other enclosed places that the smell was overwhelming.

I never use perfume. When I smell the strong perfume on others, I also feel disgusted.

So many are just mixed up chemicals and they make those around feel ill.

Beautiful saying. Yes, they should invite you,"come closer" not repel you away.

Yes, I can imagine how it hung in the mattresses and the drapes as well. Maybe even the carpet.

I'm that way when it comes to musk. Not only does it stink, the women who wear it smell like they bathed in it. Every last one of them.

I used to wear musk and my mom hated it. I use a little bit of various essential oils, sometimes, but do not own any commercial scent any more. Not body spray, cologne, perfume. None of it.

Gross. I cant stand that either. A little bit is fine but some people overdo it for sure.

It also happened to be a fragrance i just do not like. I did like what @Kandae11 said. A perfume or fragrance should whisper not shout.

Even my favorite, if applied too heavily, is awful. I was just glad to leave.

After a certain point they just cannot smell it on themselves. To me "clean" is the best smell ever.

@GardenGerty you reminded me mentioning clean. I finally remembered my favorite soap Ivory and ordered some bar. Just simple and pure soap.

I used to work with a girl who wore the worst perfume. The minute she stepped into my office my nose would clog and I would sneeze until she left.

Too much of any scent, cheap or otherwise, is no way to wear it.

That is the truth. I know I said it was cheap, it could have been costly, but too much of it, on a sweaty body with smoker smell too just smells bad.

Even expensive fragrances can be too much and smell bad. I have been known to just open a bottle of fragrance and let it fragrance a room, rather than wear it.
