I have a smoked sausage I bought at the supermarket the last time I was there. And I have part of a red cabbage I bought around 3 weeks ago.
Leticia was clever and took out the outer leaves of the cabbage the last time we made this dish so the rest was as good as new.
The dish has caramelized onions, red cabbage in thick strips and diced green apples all in oil and vinegar. On top of it I cook the sausage and serve it with a potato.
This was my German grandfather´s favorite dish.
There are some dishes that have to do with my roots and I love them specially because of that. Do you cook such dishes?

This dish was my German grandfather´s favorite dish. I have other dishes from other sides of the family and other parts of the world.

My grandfather spoke German in the home, while he was growing up. My mother got some wonderful recipes from her grandma. Sauerkraut&pork-sausage over mashed potatoes. Stolen was a German bread, she use to bake.

Removing the top leaves of the cabbage to cook and keep the rest for another day is a good idea. I will do that the next time we buy a cabbage.

@marguicha I think cabbage often features in their traditional recipes too.
