While we were visiting our daughter and her family who live in Delaware, we went to dinner one evening in the charming town of North East, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. The name of the restaurant was Woody's and our dinner consisted of generous portions of lobster, crab, crab claws, calamari, and other types of seafood. It was wonderful! The town also had a couple of antique stores and our daughter purchased a darling marble-topped side table for her living room. I also discovered a sweet little non-profit store (pictured above) which sold jewelry which had been donated by department stores. I was pleased to learn that 100 percent of the proceeds from the sales went to charities to help animals. Ellen DeGeneris has paid the rent for the shop for the next ten years and it is operated by volunteers, so all the proceeds are pure profit. Since we were in Maryland, I purchased a blue crab necklace and matching earrings. It was a fun outing and my little grandsons seemed to enjoy their evening in the town, too. Our daughter even let her four-year old pick out a small antique sign to hang in his bedroom and, of course, we ended the evening with ice cream cones at a shop next to the restaurant. We had a great time!

@DeborahDiane not unless I order it when I get groceries. A bit too expensive to have all the time.

@RasmaSandra - Yes, it is too expensive to have all the time. Plus, we would get tired of it!

@JudyEv - The seafood was wonderful and, even with all of us there, we had some left over for our daughter and son-in-law to take home. We loved it!

This is a very special store. I would like that more rich people would help to raise money to help animals or people in need.

@DeborahDiane If you consider that they deduct the donations from the taxes it's even not a cost for them.

@LadyDuck - I agree. Wouldn't it be nice if more wealthy people looked for ways to help people and animals? They could do so much good!

@DeborahDiane I'd have a hard time leaving that shop! Years ago I went in a similar shop- they had two adorable adoptable kittens in a cage in the corner- I didn't need a little bowl but I bought one anyway at a pretty high price cause I knew the money would help them.

@sallypup - Yes, that is exactly how I felt. Their prices were actually reasonable, but I was determined to buy something, simply because I wanted to help the store!

@sallypup - There were all types of items which department stores had donated ... jewelry, purses, and different odds and ends.

It sounds like a wonderful evening out. We always stayed in Maryland on our trips home from Florida. It's such a pretty and clean state with fabulous restaurants. Now we fly.

@DianneN - Ha ha! I understand! When we moved from Texas to California, we also had to drive our cars and some of our personal belongings across country. The worst part was when we towed our boat across country and gave it to one of our adult daughters, who was much more likely to use it than we were. Towing a boat really slowed us down and, when we hit the traffic in LA, it almost drove us crazy!

@DianneN - My husband and I fly now when we go any long distance. The days of long, multi-day road trips are in our past. It is much easier on my husband, in particular, to just fly and rent a car or, when we visit our daughter, have a car and driver take us to her home.

@DeborahDiane We also use drivers to pick us up and drive us to airports and always rent cars when we travel within the US. We drove our first three years back and forth to Florida, because we moved many of our extra belongings to our empty condo. We stopped driving the year we wound up buying two cars in Florida. One was too small, so we had it shipped home. I'm so glad we did, because it is the perfect little convertible for summer driving. Now we have 3 cars in CT and 1 in Florida. Something is wrong with the math.
