What's your personal record for hours spent on hold in a single day?

Yesterday, I spent some time working on have my medical coverage adjusted. I called the place I was instructed to call and wound up on hold for 45 minutes. They referred me to another number, where I was on hold for 30 minutes. Two further calls yielded wait times of about 45 minutes each, yielding a total wait time of about 2 hours and 45 minutes, if my math is right. Fortunately, my young neighbor friend was here, and I have speaker phone, so we were able to work on his homework together. What is your personal record for wait time on hold? Do you find it a tad frustrating?

Around 2 hours and it was for my sisters Medicaid when she first got it back 15 years ago. I also had a speaker phone back then. Yes my nerves wont handle that.

You had me on this one. Made me laugh. I do not play with that type of stuff. I either go online to talk to them or just say screw them all together. On the way back from Laughlin in car, My friend fought for two hours with AT&T because his phone would have a hard time charging after 6 months and they raised his rates without telling him for no specific reason. I just remember a bunch a yelling, swearing and then. Fine, if you not going to fix this, How much for the upgraded version because he could not do anything because he was in that stupid contract thing. I just shook my head. After all that you rewarded them with more business. I get it but corporate world is to much and they need to be slapped in the face.

@TheHorse AT&T,is bad, stay away from them. Their cable deal is very reasonable to start, but that is how they doing it now. Lets make these great offers and then when they become loyal, lets screw them. These people are good and it is enough. Someone needs to stand up to them and slap them in the face. Shame on you for treating your brothers and sisters this way.

@crossbones27 Comcast is the same. We don't have that many options. It's almost like a monopoly.

Comcast does the same dang thing. They sneak your rate up without telling you...I was thinking of switching to AT&T, but it's probably not any different.

@TheHorse I would think it pretty much depends upon the kind of service we need. For example, if we ask for simple things, the person at call center will be able to answer promptly, but if we ask for slightly complicated matter, the person is going to ask us to wait and confirm from his or her superior. Here, the superior may already be focusing on a few other matters, and so the time taken is more. In a way it is positive because we are at least sure that the superior is taking pains to understand what we are trying to say.

It is the same here. The first thing we have to deal with is whether we want English or Spanish.

@TheHorse I've been dealing with DIRECTV every month since last April. The story is too long to go into, but they promised that our bill would remain $75 for one year, yet every month it goes up. I told them all they had to do was listen to the recorded phone conversation on May 2 and they would hear the promise that was made. They finally admitted they can't really listen to those phone calls. As of now, my bill is supposed to be $80 a month. We'll see.

I was on tech support for seven hours once. He helped me reconfigure my computer one painful line at a time. I had to wait through his coffee breaks and lunch hour. I was afraid if I hung up, I would get someone else and have to start over. In the end, I told him I loved him. He said he loved me too. It was a really strange day.

@akalinus I've been told "I love you" by a handful of college students (usually when they realized they passed Research Methods). My response: "I am SO fired!" They laugh. I hope your guy remembers the conversation and gets a laugh out of it when he needs one.

I liked the Vivaldi they played over one hold. The "soft rock" they played over another made my want to tear my hair out. Fortunately, my hair is really short right now, so I couldn't get a good grip on it.

That is just crazy to have to wait that long! I think the longest I have waited is around an hour, being passed around also. That's what gets irritating to me. You tell the first person what you are calling about, then they connect you to someone else, then your have to explain all over again. This happened to me one time, between the wait time and being switched to different people, by the 5th time, I was so mad that I started yelling and telling the person to not switch me again. Needless to say they hung up on me! This had to do with a cell phone service.

I try to remind myself that it's not the person on the other end's fault. Makes me yell less, even if I want to.
