Played a gig today with Pearl Jam!

Well it really only works if you say it. Not if you write it out. A bunch of middle aged guys, all decent musicians, played a gig today at the Brentwood Historical Society BBQ. We got paid $75 each, plus some excellent BBQ beef and unlimited libations. We coudn't figure out what to call the band, so we settled on Burl Jam, a play on Pearl Jam. "Burl" is the nickname of our lead vocalist. We played a mix of Western Swing, Country, and Folk. A good time was had by all, I think, and I scored a couple of pomegranates from a tree the parking lot (for scientific purposes, of course). I also got to have a chicken sit on my head. We'll see if those pictures ever make it to me. How was your Sunday? I'll attach an older photo of Burl Jam. I can't remember what we were called on that day. Nope, that photo appears to be gone like a train from my computer. I'll attach one of me on mandolin, which I didn't play at all today.

Unlimited libations has to be worth a bit. Unfortunately I can't see a photo. Did you forget it?

Nope. I can't find it on my computer. I thought I'd be able to. Time to edit my text.

@TheHorse You'd have thought he'd have learnt by now not to say that.

Burl Jam is hands down better than Pearl Jam in my opinion.

@TheHorse don't bother listening to that small garage band from Seattle.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Are you sure you want the chicken pics to surface?

@vandana7 Heh. "Bore the pants off of..." is a commonly used expression here. I don't know if it's "international" or not.

Sure, everyone hates Peal Jam until someone says you played with them. I do not care what anyone says. Eddie Vedder is one of the neatest musicians of all time in my book whether people take him for granted or not. That being said, neat that some still seem not to and how neat to have fun with it. I hope you had fun buddy.

@TheHorse He is the guy from the Beatles with the funny hair. Yet they never got called outcasts the way some do in music.

@crossbones27 Heh heh. The Beatles? Was that Paul McCartney's band before Wings? I actually don't know Pearl Jam's sound. Is there a best song I should listen to?

Sure sounds as if it was fun, especially if the sun was shining and the air was warm and dry. My Sunday was downright cold and dreary, stayed in all day listening to the radio and reading.

I've always said Pearl Jam would be a better band if they had a mandolin player.

@TheHorse -- oh, they had one, but they never let him play. That's why HE is a solo success and they were just meh.

Oh, absolutely! If the Beatles had had a mandolin player, they could have "been somebody."

BBQ beef an unlimited libations was a good reason enough to go, the money is a plus.

@TheHorse Poor horse, I am sorry he only has one eye. I was petting the kitten of the cat of a neighbor a few minutes ago. I feel alone now that Willy is no more.

Exactly! I got to pet a one-eyed miniature horse and a goat as well. Life was good.

Good for you and your middle-aged friends, and the chicken too! Doing what you enjoy (and have the talent to do), having fun, food, drinks and some nonsense too. Can't beat that in my opinion.

Aaaaah, this is what happy days are made of. Friends doing together something they like, something beautiful, something silly, some food and some music. And I think that some of those things can bring back childhood memories .

I remember liking grown-ups who were a bit silly, like my Uncle Harry. My parents were good parents, but they were quite serious.

@TheHorse indeed. I always enjoy playing a little, I don't care how old I am. Some little, silly things are always welcomed when the dosage is right . My parents were serious too and they still are. But just as you said, they are good parents .
