Time for some change

my favorite gourd

Lots of people I know save their change. I do too, to a certain extent. This is a painted "apple gourd". I have seen them painted to look like apples and other things. I bought this at a yard sale. Thinking I might sell it, then I noticed the crack. You can see the crack in the picture. I still love it. It is beautiful and flamboyant as I would like to be. So if you come to my house looking for money, the change is all in here. Really there is not much point to ever have more than four pennies, a nickel, a dime and three quarters in your change purse. I think you can make change for almost anything if you have those. Put the rest in a jar. So where do you put your spare change? Hubby leaves his all over everywhere. He is always looking for special numbers. I should just scoop some of his change up and put into my gourd.

your apple is beautiful. We keep spare change in a sheep ornament. It should be about full.

It is always amazing when we cash the change in how much there is.

@GardenGerty I said ornament because I didn’t know what else to call it. My sheep is kind of large, and more like pottery. I’ve put change in it a long time and still don’t have it full.

It is a gourd, shaped like an apple. Gourds are related to squash and cucumber, but when ripe they get a hard, woodlike shell. Someone removed the seeds and painted it.

I wonder if I could grow and dry some next year. We grew handled gourds when I was a kid and my mom painted them for maracas. I love to look inside my gourd and see the hot pink inside full of money.

I have a talking piggy bank I put it all into, except for the pennies. Right now there's about $170 in the talking coin bank and probably another $100 in pennies. Eventually I cash them in and then deposit them into savings or my brokerage account.

Very organized and with a goal as well. It is a good way to accumulate a little extra.

@GardenGerty A little here and a little there. It all adds up. Especially when it gets invested instead of just spent.

My dad has a three foot tall glass Coke bottle where he keeps his change. It's over half way full.

I think I have seen those. It adds up when you save change. They say the average household has $90 worth of change lying around, or laying around, not sure of the grammar on that. I checked and I do believe I decided lying was correct.

My daughter has a coin purse she has had for years that she puts all her change in. I use a debit card so I rarely have any change.

My sister uses debit cards, but at the first of the month she gets out a set amount of cash so she has some pocket money. She has to get quarters for the laundry.

@LadyDuck We used to have those or similar when I was a kid. Now everyone pays with a card and I have not seen one.

I used to keep mine in a mug. But when my mother moved in (and then moved in with my uncle) she brought a jar she had kept her change in it. When she moved in with my uncle, I kept the jar and started using it instead.

If it is too much change it is pretty heavy, but it is nice to have it available to spend.
