A quiet Friday in December

It's only eighteen days until Christmas and here I sit enjoying a quiet afternoon. What's wrong with me?!!!
A few years ago, I would be shopping, wrapping, cooking, cleaning, mailing, and generally just stressing about all that has to be done. And how am I going to get it all done before Christmas!!!!
But now that the kids and grandkids are getting older, the holidays seem to have settled down some.
Only one little one in the family (our three year old great granddaughter) and since she lives with her mom several hours away, I have no idea what kind of toy she doesn't already have. So I'll mail her a card and a gift card to Walmart and ask her mom to take her shopping after the holidays.
The nine year old grandson has every electronic known to man. His mom suggested a book he wants (YES! A book!) so I've ordered that. Now to think of something else to get him.
The rest of the "kids" just want money to use on the cruise they're going on after Christmas. And yes, they invited us, but no, we have no desire to go on a cruise.
They absolutely love cruises as I know many myLotters do also, but I'd rather fly somewhere for a vacation.
Anyway, I've done most of my baking and put it in the freezer. I have a little shopping to do which I can finish in a day or two, the house will get cleaned, a few packages will get mailed, and I have a feeling I'll have a few more stress-less days in December.
At least I hope so.
Do you stress out over the holidays? It's hard not to sometimes, but right now I wish you a very peaceful and stress free season to celebrate the birth of that sweet baby boy, Jesus.
Merry Christmas, y'all!

Not really stressing, just doing what I can, the idea of gift cards sounds nice.

Most of us are so blessed that there's not much to buy each other. Our daughter is good about giving a trip or an experience rather than an item to unwrap which is much more fun. Last year they gave my husband a Richard Petty Driving Experience, but the hurricane put that on hold!

@porwest You're right. Experiences don't have to be expensive, but they're usually better remembered, like you said. For the last few years, our kids have rented a condo at Myrtle Beach, SC for all of us to spend my birthday (the 29th) and New Years Eve. We had planned to do that again this year until our daughter got in a car accident and had surgery on her hip this week.

@1creekgirl Those kinds of gifts ARE much better. Few people think of gifting that way. And here you are still talking about that gift AND the 'trying to get it done' part. If you'd have gotten a pair of socks, you'd not even probably remember they were a gift.

Our children and three of our five grands should be here, although our granddaughter's boyfriend won't be since they broke up. Broke our hearts, we still love him! Will you get to see your sons other times of the year?

@1creekgirl That's a shame about the break-up. We'll fly to see one son probably early April then we're going to Ireland to see the other in May/June next year.

My daughter is recovering really well! She seems to often have complications after surgeries, but praise God, she's doing great this time, even after her fall and sore knee. You'll be in my prayers this Christmas, I know you miss your mom very much.

I have stress but it's not really related to the holidays. I have gotten most shopping done.

Is there a particular reason this year isn't as anxious for you, if you'd like to share?

I'm ready to relax and put my feet up. The holidays are busy for me as everyone comes here for Christmas. I only have a few odd and ends to pick up for gifts and I need to send a few gift baskets to my elderly relatives. I always love the whole holiday season but it is exhausting

The only thing that stresses me about Christmas is all the hoo hah surrounding it.

People tend to get excited about things that really have little to do with the birthday of Christ.

I'm glad you'll get to be with family. Do they live very far away?
