Where Is the Christmas spirit?

Today afternoon I went or the city to buy some groceries for the coming holidays. I parked my car at the supermarket and when I was walking to get into the store I saw a man lying on the floor, an old couple was trying to speak with him but he had some health heart problem and couldn't speak with us, I call an ambulance and with the help of a man we turned him on his left side and stayed with him while we were waiting for the emergency vehicle to arrive. What surprised me is that only me, the old couple, and two other men stopped near him to help, (the shopping guard also helped later with the ambulance), the parking was full and no one else seemed to care.
I was shocked! People passed near us and some not even looked at us.
When did people become so selfish that aren't even capable to stop and help someone that may die If we don't help? Where Is the true Christmas spirit?

Hmmm...reminds me of the story of the Good Samaritan in the Bible! It's such a shame that people pretend to know the true meaning of Christmas, but don't back it up with action. They're too busy thinking of lonely themselves to take the time to think about others. Thank you for stopping to help the man in need. You did the right thing.

@ThreeTeddies It's too inconvenient for us to practice common humanity all year long. We're too busy being selfish, narcissistic and self-centered.

@moffittjc It's a bit sad when the 'Spirit of Christmas' only manifests itself at this time of year. Surely common humanity (another description of the Spirit of Christmas) should be an all-year-round thing?

Some people make videos of that. It is more than gross.

What If It was with them? I am sure they would be grateful If someone get involved and help them.

That is terrible but I have noticed that people tend to just think more of themselves and their needs than of others. I sure hope that man will be alright and blessings to you for helping.

It isn't that they don't care, they probably saw that the person had enough people helping him already. What could one more person or a handful of people possibly do? They would only be in the way of the emergency crew. Saying a silent prayer for the man's life to be spared is another action that can work miracles.

@Starmaiden You are being very charitable. I still think they simply couldn't be bothered

@nela13 Yes, they have. It's giving not receiving. It's being considerate of those around you. It's remembering the One born on that first Christmas long ago and trying to be more Christlike in our attitude towards other people.

I know, it is scary that people didn't care about that man. I'm happy you were there

That is confusing? I would say they felt he was being adequately assisted by others so they did not want to interfere. But I wasn't there so I really do not no why they ignored the scene??? Could they be so wrapped up in their shopping they could not be bothered? That definitely would be terrible

@dgobucks226 we should help each other all year round but during Christmas the helping should be more alive.

@nela13 That's very sad and definitely not the Christmas spirit. It's the time of year to think of helping others not thinking just about yourself

Some people just have no hearts, and it is THEM who should be lying on the floor gasping for that last breath. This kind of thing will never cease to amaze me. Luckily not everyone in the world is like this. Christmas or not, when someone is in an emergency, people should be inclined to step forward and help in whatever way they can. If THEY are ever in a similar situation, they would hope for someone to step in as well.

@nela13 That is schocking but I don't think it's a lack of Christmas spirit. I think it's more a reflection of our modern society - everyone is in a rush and so wrapped up in their own problems that they can't spare any compassion for a fellow human being

I think no one did a video but I know some people do it instead of helping.

I am so glad you and the few others helped. Christmas lives on as long as there are kind people however few .
