Lady Bug at the door

I know, you don't believe in luck; neither do I. But, I do go out of my way not to harm a Lady bug. If I find one in the house, I carefully take it outside. Why take a chance? When one appeared on the front door frame on a rather cold, dry New Year's Eve, I decided to take a quick photo. Regardless of whether they bring luck or not, these little bugs a quite beneficial as predators, eating corn borers, aphids, spider mites, moth larvae and other insects that harm food. ornamental plants or flower crops. They have even been to Space ( four lady bugs, along with a jar of aphids) on a shuttle to study their movements. They were able to catch the aphids without benefit of gravity. One more thing. Lady Bugs are the official state insect of Delaware, Tennessee, Ohio, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Who knew? One more more thing, there are bad bugs out there doing their best to look like lady bugs, so don't fall for the green or yellow ones with black dots.

For years, tons of these bugs have appeared before autumn and we have to kill them.

@myklj999 I do not know, but every year at the same time they appear and it's terrible. There are a bunch of them, we can not defend themselves from them.

@JamesHxstatic Do you know how painful it is to bite you? They fall into food, water ... They enter the cabinets, the dressing room smells of them ... You can not even imagine how many of them are.

@jameshxstatic The Irish for a lady bug is bóín dé which literally means God's little cow. There you are now. You're welcome.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't seen any ladybugs in 3 years when I had that fall on the sidewalk. I love ladybugs.

We also say that they bring luck. They are hibernating right now, if I see one around it's a "fake".

@JamesHxstatic If it was inside all the time, it did not feel the cold.

We have a lady bug invasion every year. They are not the same ones from my childhood. They bite and are very annoying.

@JamesHxstatic yes, they are not native to the USA. I did some research. I can't remember where they come from.

I've never heard of that superstition, but I wouldn't harm one anyway. They are the gardeners' friend.
