When you post a discussion

Ideas crop up and eagerly we post discussions here but while doing so what is uppermost in our mind is that many will get attracted to our discussions and rush to respond. But invariably it is a topsy-turvy result What we feel will get to the top will be at the bottom and vice versa What according to you will reach the top?

I don't even look to see who or what reaches the top. I simply write my posts, interact, and try my best to keep up.

I do see your discussions doing well. It could be that you interact with many here as that is one of the reasons why discussions get many responses. I am lazy and give up easily.

Top discussions? You have to interact a lot and then people will read, comment and like your discussion.

You could be right there but in my case I do not interact much and despite this some discussions get a lot of attention

I think it has to be something that catches the attention of many people and if I knew what it was it would post it and I would be at the top all the time.

@allknowing Since you have only 24 hours to get to the top, you need to start at the right time of the day and on the right day. Check who is posting and comment on all of their posts.

I have no clue, sometimes I post something that just crossed my mind and find it gets a lot of responses.. but those I think through and write hardly get any.. It depends on the mood of the people I guess.

I think it shall remain a mystery but there are a few here who continue to get responses to all their discussions even beyond a hundred not necessarily great posts.

@sofssu There are some who post every day and get to the top rated but may not have that many. I remember posting a beautiful sunrise photo and another user posted one surely nothing to write home about but that user got to the top

Each of us have different approaches and as for me I do not interact much and therefore despite not interacting much some of my discussions do reach the top and wonder why all do not reach there (lol)

I have found there is no rhyme or reason to what does well here and what does not. I could post something thoughtful and it fizzles while what I ate for dinner soars. I just post what I want and let the site do what it is going to do on its own. On sites like this I gave up a long time ago trying to figure out what works and what does not. I just do what I do and let the cards fall where they may. In the end, it's more about the interactions than the posts themselves.

I have no idea. If an idea for a post occurs to me I write it. If nothing is on my mind I don't write posts. I believe that writing from the heart is most successful but I've not really tested that.

One theory has repeatedly been emphasised upon and that is interaction - responding to discussions posted by others which I am guilty of not doing justice to and even then suddenly out of the blue a few of my discussions get attention. Yes. It is a guessing game.

It can happen often... we write something and think it will get a lot of interaction but it doesn't. Or we think hardly anyone will respond but we write it anyway and then a lot of people comment... You just never know how a discussion will pen out when we write it. Writing about certain things does tend to get a lot of interaction or at least more than a few responses. Things like the weather, what we had for dinner/lunch/breakfast, online earnings... writing about those is usually a win.

It's hard to be on top especially if you are not that famous here, I mean this is base on my own observation. But the thing is no matter what if people like your discussion eventually everyone will.

It is hard to say. It depends on peoples moods at the time and who is here to read them. You just never know until you post something.

I prefer thought-provoking discussions myself. I have never been a small talk type person and do not do well even in public with small talk. I like the meaty discussions. That said, I do not like politics discussions. It is so divisive. But I do agree with you. Just cannot tell which topics will draw the most people and attention. Maybe it is our headings? I have come across a few discussions where the heading is enticing only to get into the discussion and find a really long discussion that hardly touched on the heading topic. Most of the topics I post that I think will be of good interest are often little to no responses. That said, I do check all the discussions each time that have no responses and try to respond to them if I can. I hate to see anyone not get at least one response.
