My Husband is Home from the Hospital, But We're Both Tired

My husband is home from the hospital, but we are exhausted after he was there for almost the entire week, and I spent 12-13 hours a day there with him.
He had an attack of angina, Afib, and pauses in his heartbeat.
The good news is that he does not need another heart stent. They put one in four years ago, and it is still doing OK.
The bad news is that there isn't much they can do for his current problem, but they are going to implant a heart monitor under the skin on his chest later this month and will be able to monitor his heart wirelessly.
I hope he doesn't have another angina attack like the one he just had. It was very painful for him!

I'm glad he's home and "better." You both rest up. Remember to take time for yourself, because I always like to remind people (having gone through this a number of times) that an illness doesn't just affect the person who's ill. Prayers for both of you!!

@FourWalls - Thank you for that reminder. Yes, I was exhausted when we got home. It is important for caregivers to take care of themselves, too.

@LadyDuck - You are so right. No matter how nice the hospital is, it is not like being at home. I even feel that way about hotels. It is always great to go on a trip, but even better to get home!

I just responded to your comment on your last post. Again, I'm so happy that he's home. A friend of ours here has a monitor implanted under the skin on his chest for the very same reasons and has been doing fine for years. I hope won't have another attack like that. Do they know what brought it on? I know you will take extra good care of him.

@DianneN - They could not figure out what brought it on. The two preceding days had been pretty normal for us. We didn't stay up late for New Years Eve, and we relaxed at home on New Years Day. Then, he woke up the next day with this severe attack. Who knows? I have heard good things about those implanted monitors. At least we will feel as though everything is staying stable.

Can they give him nitro to take during angina attacks? Or would that be a problem with his other health conditions? I know how tiring hospital stays are and the medical needs seem to keep you from ever getting solid rest.

@GardenGerty - Yes, fortunately nitro is something he can take, and he has a few in a bottle here at home. He now has a heart monitor attached to his chest for the next two weeks, and they will review the data it collects to see if there is anything else they can do to help him. Thanks for asking.

@JamesHxstatic - Thank you. They still have not figured out the problem. He has slept almost all day today. He took an hour nap this morning, only three hours after he got up. Then, he took a two hour nap this afternoon. It is only four o'clock in the afternoon right now, and he is asleep again. This is so unlike him. He has always been a very high energy person, and this has been going on nearly the entire month of January. I hope they figure out soon what is causing the problem.

@andriaperry - After they have the monitor in, they may make some changes to his medications. I think the monitor will be a big help.
