Need Your Advice

Hello sweet friends! I have a slight dilemma and need your help. A select group of people were invited to a Super Bowl Party in our clubhouse. Dinner, nibbles, and the football game. I’m not much of a football fan, but do enjoy the commercials and rooting for one of the teams to lose, since my husband’s team will not be in it this year. I was asked to make my special salad. My problem is that since it’s a by invitation only thing, I don’t know if a certain friend is invited or not. If I call her to ask, and she is NOT invited, I would feel awful. Something similar happened before. So should I call her or wait to see if she shows up? Have a wonderful day and may a certain team lose. ~Photo of Orville the osprey fishing with one of his sons~

Do not call her Dianne, wait to see if she shows up. It would be embarrassing if she has not been invited. Well, there is a solution, call her and ask "what do you do on ( ...) day and time of the Super Bowl Party?" If she says I join a party you can risk to say "Oh I forgot, I do too".

Twins! I thought of doing something like that, too. Then I thought, she may feel the same way and not want to hurt my feelings either.

@DianneN Exactly what I was thinking soon after I typed to comment. She could not tell you because she fears to hurt you.

I think I'd be waiting to see if she shows up. If she is invited she might just call you. I hope your team loses - or should that be win? You have totally confused me.

Our favorite team didn’t make it this year. Out of the two who are in in, we dislike one severely and hope they lose. We will root for the other team. Actually, if it’s bad, I may leave after halftime. lol. I suppose I will have to wait and hope she shows up.

Sounds like it might be better just to wait. I'm not interested in the game but also like the commercials and will watch them on YouTube in the days to come. Enjoy the day!

I read the comments and most say just wait and see. I think I will check on a friend and I would ask what is his/her plans on the Super Bowl date and then I would have an idea.

I'd wait to see if she was invited. I wouldn't want her to feel bad and left out if she wasn't invited. I know that's how I would feel if I wasn't invited to something a lot of my friends were. I'd also wonder about my friends for not inviting me, but that's another discussion.

@just4him . Thanks. We really can't stand that team, even though we are from New England. I think it's Tom Brady we despise.

Well, we know the outcome. Grrrrr! My husband and both sons love the NY Giants. They beat Brady and the Patriots the last two time they played him in the Super Bowl.. What wonderful nights those were for us! My husband saw her husband at the pool and flat out asked him if they were going. . They were there.

@Courtlynn The Giants have had some bad years, but my husband still watches the games. I stay out of the room thinking I'm bringing them bad luck. Not so. lol That rotten Dr. Jay is from Boston and loves the Patriots. He invited us over last year for Playoffs and they lost the game. Maybe I should actually watch more often. . Can't stand Brady or his wife!

@DianneN my cousin and her boyfriend like the giants too. Or least.. when they're winning. Lol. I love watching the Patriots lose. Whether in preseason, regular season, playoffs or superbowl. It all makes me smile big! Though i really love when they lose in the superbowl.

Ohhhh, I've been in this situation. Most recently would be for a 50th anniversary party for a parent friend's parents. With our group, in past years we have always group texted invitations, and by the text response we would all know who could make it or not. But one of the parents in the past couple years has started texting us individually about get togethers and it seemed like they excluded certain people at times. Hate to say it, but even my daughter was excluded a few times - but only because it was a boys only kind of thing. So at this anniversary party, a bunch of us were actually shocked that one close family didn't show up to this major party (how could they not have come, though none of us discussed anything before this party). We found out a week later they were invited but had other commitments that night. I would wait to see if your friend shows up . . . I know what it's like to be on the end of getting hurt about finding out that I/we were not invited to something.

@DianneN Sometimes you can find out tactfully . . . mention Super Bowl at all and they would probably say something about it. I'll have to read your next post that I saw to see what happened .

Yes, these party things can be hurtful. Here, we were invited personally, and I did ask my brother if he was invited. He is, but I had a feeling he would be. My husband is at the pool with her husband right now, so I asked him if he would tactfully find out if they are going. I'm still waiting, but will find out for sure later.

I think you should wait and see if your friend shows up. I'm debating whether or not to even watch the big game tonight. I do not like either team. I hope they both lose! haha But I will probably watch just because the commercials are my favorite part of the whole Super Bowl

@DianneN That's nice that your friends ended up being there! I was extremely disappointed in that game, and not just because the Patriots won. It was an all-around boring game, a real letdown for a Super Bowl.

I heard that we will be in a minority at the game. Most are that team's fans. You would think we'd be, too, coming from New England, but my husband hails from NY, so NY has always been our team. My husband is down at the pool with her husband right now, so he will find out for me, hopefully. All they do is talk about sports which drives me crazy.
