Epic dating fails

As I was falling asleep last night, I drove down memory lane to some of my favorite romantic moments from the past. Some involved great conversation. Some involved snuggles. Some involved beautiful words. Some were rather passionate. But then, suddenly, my mind was invaded by one of my great dating fails. I was in my mid-20s. She was maybe two years older. We had gone to dinner, and had consumed a decent amount of wine. We had not yet kissed. We are at her house. In a lady-like way, she excused herself to go to the washroom. After too many minutes, I went to check on her. The image of her there, asleep on the potty, still haunts my mind. I think I helped her into bed and then left quietly. We never dated again, though we remained friends. We never kissed. As for last night, I shifted my thoughts to the book I had been reading, and quickly fell asleep. (Can you think of some fails from the past? Some of mine involve vapid conversation, stinky breath, the humor-challenged, and a few other things I won't mention.)

Poor girl, this is what happens when men try to make girls drink so that they are more "loose".

Sigh. In my younger day I was often shy to kiss someone. The grape or gain would be more for my own benefit than theirs.

@TheHorse We close the door, period. I close the door even if I am home alone, it's a habit.

It is. But I think I need a different memory to carry with me for the rest of the day.

In India, fifty years ago, dating was not common. In fact, most women got married when they were just twenty or even earlier. So I have no interesting experience to share - siva

Siva what happens if there is mismatch of aspirations, empathy etc. I do think arranged marriages worked because girl stopped aspiring for more.

Oh, my that is indeed an epic fail. But in my opinion, it is on the part of the woman. Imagine falling asleep in a potty. So shameful because you weren't even close yet.

I once had grandeurs of riches. I guy whose parents owned a Persian carpet store in Manhattan in NYC asked me out. He asked me to meet him at a restaurant which I did. It was a place for dining and for dancing and I was hoping to have a good time. I just did not know that rich guys thought they could just have some fun and be done with it. When he met me he said let's go. I did not understand why so I thought perhaps he had chosen another place to have dinner. Instead, he had chosen to have fun at a hotel. I told him that was not my idea of a fun date and demanded he take me home which he did and good riddance to him.

More embarrassment than anything. Back in highschool a tall hunk and I shared a spare. We would often talk in the library, nothing romantic (that I was aware of) but after a week of shared conversation I was accosted in the hallway by his "girlfriend". I was told to back off....he wasn't available....and if I persisted I could expect something really unpleasant to occur. Shy, retiring me, avoided the library after that. She eventually married the guy....wonder if she trusts him?

Good one! So innocent conversation in the library means confrontation from a jealous girlfriend? Do you you know if they're still together?

This is not a dating story but you reminded me of it. Years ago at a student party one of my friends went to the toilet - and then, like your friend, he fell asleep. Meanwhile the party (which was in a student's room) continued and if anyone noticed he was missing they just assumed he had left. After a while people started to make their way home and the person whose room it was went to bed, with her boyfriend. Luckily they were not getting up to anything embarrassing because shortly after, my friend woke up and came out of the bathroom to rejoin the party. He had no idea how long he'd been asleep - gave the host quite a surprise!

@TheHorse That was an experience. Someone set me up on a date but the guy came to my home. It was here in Israel and he used my dog as a foot stool and told me he is not going to marry me. I thought wow. It is just one date and I really did not like him either. We never dated again.

Dog as a footstool? That actually made me chuckle! And what a strange thing to say on a "first date." I'm glad you were spared another date with him.

I had a girl announce to all of my best friends that we were officially dating and I had no idea that was even an option. I mean, I didn’t want that option at all. Well later on in the evening as we were at a pool hall, she stumbles into the bathroom and passes out on the toilet. Pants down and all. I sent the bartender in to retrieve her and took her home. The next morning, I get a call saying that I abandoned her at the bar. I’m still trying to figure out how she got home if I abandoned her? Apparently it’s still my fault. Lol
