Enjoying Our Daughters

We have been enjoying some family time. Our New York daughter came to visit this week because of her concern about her Dad's declining health. She brought along her 13 year old son. Her husband had to stay in New York. The New York daughter and our Irvine, California daughter went to Disneyland today with their three teenage children. They have been texting me photos all day and it looks like they have been having a wonderful time. I'm glad they are all out having a great day and not just sitting around the house all day. It has been raining a bit, but it hasn't stopped their enjoyment. It is always fun when our daughters and grandchildren are around! It also gave my husband a break. The doctors did a bone marrow biopsy on Monday, and his hip is still painful from it. They also put him on high doses of steroids to try to stabilize his low platelets. They already told us they cannot do anything for his heart, but they are trying to slow down the progression of his blood cancer and declining kidney function. Despite all the difficult health problems, my husband has been in a good mood and is enjoying the visit from our New York daughter and grandson.

I'm glad you got to spend some precious time with your daughters. And I'm glad that--despite the circumstances--your husband was in a good mood. Please enjoy as much quality family time as you can, and cherish those memories. My brother just informed me yesterday on his birthday that our mom's health is starting to fail. He doesn't think she'll make it through the year. So it's time for us to spend as much time as we can with her, which is hard for me because I'm 4 hours away from where she lives.

I hear you on this one Jeff. It is about three and a half hours to see dad. Bob is restricted from long drives. We have not seen him since Christmas.

@moffittjc - I'm so sorry to hear about your mother's declining health. I know it is hard to visit her, but I'm sure she will enjoy seeing you whenever you can. Late in life, our children are really the only thing that still matters.

@GardenGerty - I'm sorry to hear you are going through something similar. It can be hard to see our loved ones as much as we would like.

That's lovely that your daughter is visiting. I think it's they're out having fun. It is still like they are 'around' but your husband can rest or do what he likes without worrying.

@hereandthere - You are so right. Some of our grandchildren live in California and some live on the other side of the country in New York and Delaware. It can be hard for them to get together, so I like seeing them bond.

@LadyDuck - I understand. The era of long trips for my husband is over, too. The last few times we flew somewhere, he ended up getting sick. It is just easier to stay home. I understand that the Disneyland in Paris is wonderful!

@DeborahDiane I am sure it is. I seen my dad every day before he passed. But sadly my siblings did not feel the same way until I finally had to put him in a home for the last about 3 weeks. He enjoyed being in there and I am sure that was part of why he did enjoy it. I hope the doctors can find something to really slow things down for you guys.

@DianneN - Thank you so much Dianne. We have been pretty overwhelmed with a lot of bad medical news ... first his kidney disease, then the doctors telling us there is nothing more they can really do for my husband's heart, and now the blood cancer. I keep hoping that when the results of some of these tests come back, we will finally get some good news. I will post it, if we do. Meanwhile, sometimes, even when I have time to get on MyLot, I just don't have the emotional energy. Just know that I am doing OK, or at least the best I can, and I am trying to take care of my husband and myself, even if that means less time on the computer.
