Would You Tip Again?

I no longer have a regular hairdresser so today I had my hair cut at Supercuts. We've gone there for my grandson and son-in-law and I decided to give them a try. I showed a photo of what I wanted with layers and opted not to style since I was going back home from there. He put sea salt in and scrunched my natural waves. I almost always want to see the back and yet today I didn't.
I get home and my daughter ran her fingers through the back and sides to gt an idea of layers and found several long strands to the middle of my back that he didn't get. He had scrunched them up in a way they didn't hang down. Looking in the back, it looks super thick and blunt and not layered enough. I have thin hair so that was a shock to see it like that.
I called and was told to come back and get it fixed free so I'm going tomorrow after church. Do I tip again? If he is out when I get there and another does my hair, how much should they be tipped? I have to drive 45 minutes to this place too.
Tipping is always a question for me in circumstances like this and my funds are tight.

Sorry to hear that happened with your hair cut. Glad they will fix it for free though. I don't tip to begin with, so I don't have any idea!

@noni1959 I agree about them paying better. I never have thought to give a tip for hair cuts though.

@MommyOfEli2013 It's pricey as it is but usually tipping is expected. I don't go by the percent though. I go by what they are doing. Long ago when I was working and more money, I'd do cuts and colors that would be a bit more expensive and tip on top. It felt so over spent.

@noni1959 That sounds very illegal to me. Minimum wage should be high enough to live off and should really be a minimum, so you can't pay under it.
I saw a program about minimum wages in the US and they are really minimum.
But would you also tip if the owner of the place did your hair?

@Torunn It's not illegal. Each state has their own rules and regulations and some areas within the states may be higher due to the area having a higher cost of living. It's hard on some like those in Mississippi. It's a very poor state. My oldest lives there.

What are you tipping for if this is a fix? No way. I did hair so this is my stance on that.
It is a service which they should have done right the first time. It is not mean not to tip for you having to return for a fix!!
If someone else is fixing it then tip if you like I guess.
Sorry this happened to you and good luck.
Please do not let the 'mealy mouths' convince you that you have to feel obligated to tip..this is absolutely not the case.
And always always check the back before you leave.

In college, I had to bartend and wait tables to get by, and I knew how much I depended on tips to help me survive. Because of that, I always make sure to tip at least something, because I know how much people are struggling. So, even if somebody didn't do something right--and assuming they were trying their best--I will still leave a tip.

@noni1959 Just remember to be polite about the whole situation, even if it's not fixed right. We're all human, and everyone makes mistakes, including those who cut hair for a living.

@moffittjc I went in and he was there and was so apologetic. I was very nice and told him I wasn't upset. He fixed my hair and I'm very happy with it. I talked with him as he trimmed and he is a nice guy. It was just an off day yesterday.

I haven't been in that situation before in having to go back to fix a haircut, but I guess I would tend to tip again, but only the minimum. If I plan to go back to that same place someday, then definitely I would like to leave on a good note. But I don't pay very much for my haircut (which is literally once/twice a year), so the tip isn't that big of a deal either (a couple bucks or so).

I would tip if it is a new person but if it is the same person I wouldn't give a full tip, just a hlf tip maybe. I always tip and probably too much so go with your gut.

It's sad you have to be inconvenienced and go back but as much as I hate to say it, I think a tip is in order if someone else is doing the work. If it's the same person I might not tip again.

If it's the same person who will fix it maybe you need not bother after all it's a back job.

I would not want the same guy do my hair again. I would request someone else and then leave them a tip.

It's actually a chain place so usually only has workers in there. I used to frequent them in CA before getting a regular stylist and I never had issues. I was thinking no tip again since I am spending $20 in gas and already tipped better than normal.
