Unwelcome house guests

Sophie (@SophiaMorros) recently wrote about how house-guests can make themselves unwelcome. We host musicians every time we have our house concerts. They come in time for a sound check, then we give them a meal and after the concert, they stay the night and leave next morning after breakfast.
Most are lovely people but some become a bit ‘up themselves’ if you’ll pardon the expression. One man who was/is a fantastic musician blotted his copybook well and truly.
We always ask the musicians if they have special dietary requirements and this guy was vegetarian which was fine with us. But it wasn’t until he arrived that we found out that he also didn’t eat onion or milk products. We’re 7 kms from town so it’s inconvenient if we suddenly need to do some shopping we hadn’t intended to do.
Then, after the concert we were sitting having coffee and he went into the kitchen and took a packet of frozen peas from the fridge. It turns out he had an aching arm but why not just ask for a freezer pack (or packet of peas)? I thought he was very rude but that’s okay. We don’t have to have him back.
The photo shows a kangaroo checking out the cement pad before we put up the walls of the Music Shack.
If you wish to be an unwelcome houseguest it is critical that you assume that house rules and customs do not apply to houseguests. If your hosts stop to take...

That is something. He really has nerve. He was acting like it was his home. I had someone that i thought was a friend stay over night and when I put a new roll of toilet paper in the bathroom and put it s certain way and she would change it and I would change it back. I thought that was strange but did not say anything. We are no longer in contact not because of that but other things and so she will not be staying at my place ever again.

So so true. You do free concerts and you do so much for them and to treat you with disrespect is not right. I am not in contact with that person again, not because of that but I saw the real her and it was not the first time so this was it. I cannot have people that just want you to support them and do not support you in my life.

He probably wonders why we haven't asked him back.

I also feel that he was rude to use your fridge without your approval. I would not appreciate that either.
Also it is not courteous to tell his dietary restrictions before landing. A last moment change can be unpleasant and stressful.

@JudyEv Yes it is. I can understand it. The guest should be more sensible.

I think they might be too much of an assault on the ears of our (mostly) elderly audience.

hmm, maybe because the frozen peas is vegetarian and good for the environment? hahaha!

That musician must of read somewhere that frozen peas make a great ice pack. Of course, that's if you don't have a real one! Now that's making yourself at home
