if you're going to wash 2 or more loads of laundry

the washing machine makes laundry so much easier than in our elder's time, especially with big and heavy items.
even though we only have a spinner, it still helps cut down on time and effort.
you just have to put them in hangers, then dry them under the sun.
i've seen people, though, who wait for all 2 or 3 batches to finish before hanging them.
they just pile all the damp clean clothes in a big basin.
why?
me, i hang the first batch as soon as it's finished.
do you?
i see more and more laudromats/pay laundry here in our neighborhood.
sometimes i think it's because houses and apartments are so much smaller and closer together now that there's no proper laundry area.
i learned that if you can pay for extra service - the attendant will fold and pack your laundry in big clear plastic bags ready for pickup.
i can't imagine my personal items laid out on a table in a public place being folded by a stranger.
would you?

it was awkward to see the underwear when i went to a laundromat for the first time last year or the year before (even if the clothes weren't mine) but they just smiled and said they're used to it.
both twin tub and single tub machines here only have spinners. maybe because it's a sunny country so we can hang laundry out to dry most of the year.
i notice though that when using the dryer at the laundromat the clothes do come out dry and warm but also super wrinkled. why is that?

@LadyDuck oh, i didn't know there are dryers with that setting. that's even better! i'm okay with folding. don't ever make me iron!

@hereandthere My dryer has the "anti wrinkle" program, so I do not have this problem. I set the button to "ready to iron" instead fully dry, they come out better.

@hereandthere I had seen some of the laundry shops. They just asked the clients to put them in a net bag together.

That is what I did before. When I was in college, I do the laundry being the eldest and no machine to help me. I made sure that every clothes have been washed with fabcon before it gets hang. Hehe

you're a very responsible "panganay" (eldest) to your siblings.

most people here only have a twin tub top-loader or a single tub top-loader. both only have spinners to squeeze the water out and make it easier to hang, but not dryers where the clothes come out warm and dry. you'd have to go to a laundromat if you want something dried in a hurry.

we still hang our undies at the back. now you see them everywhere. again, i think it's lack of space, but also maybe we're becoming less and less conservative here.

I hang (or put in the dryer) as each load finishes. Is rather not turn my unmentionables over to a stranger

@SophiaMorros we only have sun and rain, and the spinner helps even more during the rainy season.

@hereandthere I hang out when the weather is nice. We've had a LOT of rain in the last several months.

I think it would depend on how how much it cost. I have a washer and dryer at home son that is what I use

@hereandthere I haven't been in a laudrymat for a long time, but I would go again if I needed to. Not everything fits that well in a washer.

@snowy22315 exactly. their machines are bigger and the dryer squeezed out the water from the pillows. it was still moist in some places so the sun helped with that.

they probably don't have any. there are 3 laundromats in one street alone and i always see people there.
i'm glad we have our own, but i went there before to have pillows washed and dried.

I don“t have a dryer. I gave it to my eldest daughter as I live alone. I take the clothes off the washing machine as soon as they as clean. And I put them to dry (the sun for whites and shadow for blacks). I iron them by hand while they are damp as I hate to iron.

i've heard about that, too - ironing while they're damp - instead of spraying dry clothes with a water bottle.
how do you manage when it's rainy?

Because of our drought, I make sure to do only 1 load per day - no more than that. But I would dry immediately (we have a dryer) or at least not leave it in the washer wet for so long or you get that mildew smell. When we lived at the apartments, sometimes it would be too long of a wait, so I'd take the laundry to a laundromat. I have seen those services for folding it for you - but nah . . . I don't want to pay for that - plus I could always make time to do it myself - I don't want a stranger touching my clothes.

i've seen that happen with single tub automatic - forgetting the clothes until they dry inside - because you just leave it to do its thing once you've configured it and closed the lid. unlike in the twin tub, you have to keep coming back to transfer the load from wash to spin, spin to wash until you're finished.

I have my own washer and dryer so nothing needs to be hung outside to dry. I personally wouldn't want my clothes washed and folded by a stranger but it seems popular at our local laundromat too.

i went again to have pillows washed because their machines are really big and they have a dryer. the pillows were still slightly wet so we dried them under the sun some more.

Good post. Thanks. I hang our laundry in our laundry room. It's qute a big room for a tall ang long airer. The sun shines throught the window. We have a line outside in the yard, but I can't be bothered.

We do most of the laundry at home. On days when it's likely to rain, we spin the clothes. Otherwise we hang them to dry under the sun. The heavy and big stuff like comforters, jeans, jackets, etc. we bring to the laundromat. I do not like self-service because I don't like to wait. I'm also highly sensitive to the smell of fabcon in the laundromat, so I'd rather just dump the stuff and run away. :) With a note to the laundry staff to not add fabcon to our laundry.

@hereandthere we do use fabcon on our clothes but very little and only the kind that my nose can tolerate. I don't like what they use at the laundromat and I prefer pur sheets stiff so no fabcon there.

i'd rather hang them immediately so they start to dry. i'd be overwhelmed if i see 3 loads of laundry to hang and have to figure out of there's enough space for all of them.

I try to hang everything up asao. That way, the first load can already start to dry during the two hours it takes for the second load to wash. Never heard of anyone who is waiting for all loads to wash first...

that's how i think about it, too - let the first batch dry - then replace it with the next batch.

When I was reviewing for my exam in Manila, I used to bring my clothes at the laundry shop but of course, minus the undies. We were not allowed to wash clothes(only undies are allowed) in our apartment so I had to bring it there.
I hang my clothes as soon as they are done in the dryer.

i lived in a boarding house briefly that had the same rule, yet i still see some boarders doing it.
how long did the review take?

We only ask to dry clean comforters, delicate coats or barongs (native long sleeved polo). For other clothes, we have an automatic washing machine and I hang each batch as soon as it is finished.

in the past, there were dry cleaners and that's where we took formal clothes like gowns.
