The clothes Horse goes wild!

Have you ever gone wild buying clothes? The shorts I'm wearing (from Target) as I type have holes in the pockets. So to some of my cargo pants, which are my favorite college teaching pants. The other day I went wild and spend fully $80 on a new pair of shorts AND a new pair of cargo pants from LL Bean. They should be arriving in the mail soon. Have you ever spent as much as $80 in a single day on something as basic as clothing? What's gotten into me?

I never have for 2 items. But I buy a lot of my clothes on clearance or at thrift stores.

@wolfgirl569 What makes some love shopping and others not?

Congratulations on the new shorts and pants. I will not mention my latest shopping spree amount to you, which was today. Tomorrow I intend to do more damage.

I thought of you as I was writing this post. I know that some people are more into "nice clothes" than others. Of course my post is tongue-in-cheek, but there really aren't that many situations in my life where I have to "dress up" right now. If I went out to dinner with you and your husband at a "nice restaurant," I'd probably wear my "nicest" cargo pants, a French blue University stripe Oxford shirt from Brooks Brothers, and my nicest boots. If a jacket were required, I could accommodate that. As for my "spending" side, I did (fairly) recently buy a Martin D-18 guitar for $2000 (plus tax) and a 1914 Gibson A-4 mandolin for $1750 (plus tax). I was also a guitar matchmaker for two friends. One bought a Collings D-1 guitar for $2500 (a bargain, actually) and the other (the fella who lost his house and best guitar in the Paradise CA fire) bought a Martin D-28 for about $2700. You can see "where the money goes" for slightly aging ex-hippies who like to play music.

@TheHorse I totally understand. We used to have priorities, too, but now living is easy. Btw, a nice clean shirt will do for dinner most of the time.

@DianneN I'll remember that! (smiley face emoji) Living in California, we're lucky to have excellent Thai, Japanese, Indian, Mexican, etc. food all around, even here in the "bedroom community" suburbs. The dress code is basically "be wearing something, including shoes or flip flops."

I haven't bought myself a new pair of pants in probably close to ten years. Of course I only go out once or twice a year so one pair lasts me a long time.

@TheHorse It depends what you buy, I do not wear jeans, I do not wear shorts. I usually buy a woman suite or a dress. I spend less (even a lot less) when I buy casual dresses or a pair of leggings with a long sleeve shirt to wear when I work in the garden. I would not go out dressed like this.

Every so often I will have a little run of retail madness but usually spend £1-200 at a time but then I won't buy anything for a long time after that!

I usually pay about £85 for my jeans but I tend not to buy them that often. That is the most I'll spend on one item.

Are jeans expensive there? I buy my (Wrangler) jeans at Target.

@TheHorse I usually buy Levi jeans as I like the fit and I've found they last quite a lot longer before falling apart. They usually cost between £80 to £90. I could probably get Wrangler jeans for about £40 to £50. Must admit I've never tried them. Might have a look next time I need jeans.

@WorDazza As my butt expands East and West, Wranglers seem to fit better. But I haven't tried Levi's for years. Who knows?

Well, it can be so expensive at times when you have to buy new clothes, and so easy to over spend. I try to watch how much I spend at a time anymore on clothes at one time or I could easily spend that much or more.

I will go wild on buying clothes . . . but I hardly ever buy "new" as I'm a thrifty thrift shop junkie . $80 would buy me tons of outfits !

That doesn't seem a lot to me. I don't buy clothes that often but when I do I would probably exceed that amount.

I don't buy clothes often and many times visit the Mission thrift store to find like new cheap but about a month ago I went to Cabella's and bought jeans, a pullover and socks. If I didn't have my discounts, it would have come to about $90.

The Humanity! I used to wear Levis 501s. But now I just get my jeans (Wrangler, I think) from Target.

@noni1959 I get basic stuff like t-shirts there because they're cheap. I also sometimes buy shorts there, but they only last a year.

Am not buying so many clothes for some years now; only one if there's a very important occasion and demands for a certain dress code. If you need those clothes, then why worry about what you spent?

I don't, really. But I do hope LL Bean is of higher quality than the stuff I get from Target (it usually is).

If I could afford it, I probably would...but I try to buy clothes that are not too expensive, and usually only one piece at a time (unless it's sold together)
