Are you in favor or against state laws which ban the use of cell phones while driving? If you do use your cell phone while driving here are some interesting facts I found on Google about cell phone usage in cars.
-Did you know Cell phone distraction causes 2,600 deaths and 330,000 injuries in the United States every year, according to the journal's publisher, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.
-11 teens die every day as a result of texting while driving.
-According to a AAA poll, 94% of teen drivers acknowledge the dangers of texting and driving, but 35% admitted to doing it anyway.
-21% of teen drivers involved in fatal accidents were distracted by their cell phones.
Sometimes it's hard to resist looking at an incoming text especially if it might be important. But I found these statistics pretty alarming especially among teens!

Maybe every car should have a cell phone neutralizer so that phones don't work if the car is in motion.

What a terrific idea Felix. Now that would be some very useful technology. I bring my cell phone with me in case my car breaks down or I'm in an accident. I will not answer texts when driving.

Precisely, There are enough distractions on the road to focus on. Why add being distracted by cell phones to that list!
Silencing the phone until you arrive at your destination is an excellent idea

Yes, a very safe practice. If I need to know what the message is I will pull into a parking lot to look, otherwise I do not answer.

@dgobucks226 In Europe the problem is increasing especially in some countries like Italy. Here not too much, the police is very strict.

That is an interesting analogy one I hadn't thought about. I believe that drinking and driving stats are decreasing in the U.S. while cell phone accidents are increasing. Not sure if this is the trend in Europe or how extreme the problem is in other areas of the world.

I couldn't agree more. Younger people seem to violate this law I think because they are constantly communicating with friends by text.

I know all about it, I'm very aware. I do not use the phone while driving and I support the law about it.

@dgobucks226 When I got my driving test, there were no mobile phones at the time (I belong to the old school)

I think so too. There are enough distractions on the road to focus on. Why add being distracted by cell phones to that list!

Wow! Now that's really being distracted to the point of being really dumb. And extremely life threatening!

For a very small fee a person can get a fixture that attaches to the dashboard and will let you have access to your cell without having to handle it. I think this is a great idea. I think this law is a must have in most areas.

That a good idea. Many newer cars today have bluetooth setups which enable you to receive phone calls hands free. I still find it a bit distracting though.

I pull over if I need to read a text or write one. I can talk on the phone, without using my hands.

Younger people seem to be more susceptible to the texting craze. Well, better safe than sorry with regards to keeping your phone at home. Not that you would, but your definitely temptation free

That's true! With drinking and driving the towns can have DUI stops set up to deter the problem, but how can you enforce cell phone violations effectively? It is difficult to enforce so no one worries about getting caught.

To me it is very dangerous anyone driving whatever they drive to use their cell phone. it is not only a distraction but one can have an accident and also kill others. I wish people would follow the law and pull over when they need to talk to someone and pay attention to the road when they are driving.

I agree totally. It just has been ingrained in our culture now to answer and text constantly to communicate. Bringing this habit into a car can be extremely risky.
P.S. Your Back!!! I did notice your absence Jim

@dgobucks226 It irks me when I see people doing it. It scares the hell out of me frankly.
And yes. I'm back. Glad you noticed.

I think there should be laws but enforcing them would be next to impossible. There just aren't that many police around.

Yes, I have agree on that point. The police are not going to set stops to try and catch people. I guess educating people, especially younger ones, who seem to be so used to texting, of the dangers would be one solution.
