Well, I have this weird thinking. I had seen some members who had changed their names here. For me, there is no problem and it is their choice to do so. As for me, I can't change my name. It is obvious that mylotters will not recognize me. It will be more unrecognizable if I changed my avatar. If you are keen enough, you can still recognize me by noticing the tag @Shavkat. I have been using this name since I joined here more than 6 years ago. By the way, I got my pet name in Tajikistan, it's my friend's name there. I used it to still remember him.
"Have you changed your name here?"
"What's the story of your pet name?"

I have never changed my name or my avatar. My name means hedgehog in Italian and there is a story behind it. My ex-boyfriend and I had a joke where we called eachother hedgehog and squirrel. That is a long story, but the name comes from that old joke. I wrote it in Italian because I lived in Italy twice and I was very happy there. The Italian language brings back happy memories.

@Shavkat It is a nice way to remember people from the past. I remember you wrote your time in Tajikistan before. I have never been in that part of the world. My Russian isn't very impressive I understand a bit, but that is all.

@Porcospino Uhm When I was there, I tried my best to learn the language. Since I am not there anymore, I am a bit rusty in speaking the Russian language. If I go there and visit, perhaps I can pick up the pieces of learning it again. AT first, I don't want to accept the medical mission. Since it is needed, I think it over and decided to make a big difference there.

if you use the same avatar, but you changed your display name (ex. s. gamboa) i don't there will be confusion. people tend to remember and recognize the avatar.
if you only changed your avatar, but people can still see the display name and registered name (the names before and after the @ sign as shavkat) they will eventually figure it out.

@hereandthere I agree. A few days ago, one of the mylotters caught off guard by me. The mylotter pretend to be living in another country.

I have changed it once and that was it. If you will change your name don't change the photo so I can still recognize. Or even if you don't change the photo, I can recognize your username.

If you use the same picture then you can be recognized.
