I know some myLotters know a little about horses but many more probably don’t know a lot. The terms ‘mare, stallion and gelding’ are the terms used for a mature female horse, an entire male and a castrated male respectively, The majority of riding horses are mares or geldings, Stallions can be difficult to handle, especially when surrounded by other horses. They are not a good choice for novices. However there are a lot of stallions competing including two at the endurance ride.
One was Houdini which is pictured at the beginning of this post. He became quite excited in the ring where the horses were being vetted. With so many other horses nearby, Houdini decided to do some showing off.
He isn’t a tall horse by any means but he certainly reaches a good height when he stands on his hind legs. This is called ‘rearing’. On the ride itself, he behaved himself very well and was no trouble to his rider.

@Mavic123456 I have seen photos of people riding ostriches. It looks fun but I guess they couldn't carry people who were a bit heavy.

That is a great photo. Yes they can be rotten brats. Some breeds are easier to handle than others. I had one that I would let my 10 year old nephew ride even in the pasture with the mares.

@JudyEv My last one was all stallion. He often had to be reminded. I prefer to let the horses pasture breed so that the stallion knows no questions asked, that when I am there he does no breeding. For me it seems to help.

@wolfgirl569 I'm sure it would have helped. A friend of mine has a stallion and he knows what his role is depending on which bridle is put on him.

@playertwo They are quite intimidating when they do this as they tower over you.

I don't know much about horses, even we hardly see a horse where I live.Houdini would like to make his presence felt as he saw so many horses nearby.

Wow! Houdini is handsome. He knows, exactly, what he was doing and flaunted his talent very impressively.
