Part of our dental account was waived

Vince (my husband) and I both went to the dentist yesterday for check-ups. Luckily neither of us needs to have any work done although he has put us on six-monthly checks. He also recommended we use a fluoride toothpaste, only available from the chemist. It is more expensive than most others but you only use a very small amount. You brush your teeth, spit out the bubbles but don’t rinse, eat or drink for half-an-hour.
Our health insurance fund paid all bar $7.50 of the account and for some reason they waived that amount. Maybe it was because Vince took a photo of our kindly dentist. He looks good in black and white doesn’t he? But isn’t that a bit of a turn-up for a dental surgery?

It is good to know that the health insurance did pay for the doctor's fee for dental work.

MMy dentist charges for everything. I´m glad that you gave that tip about the toothpaste. I´ll buy it and use as you say.

I'm not sure if I could stand not being able to rinse my mouth out.

Your regular toothpaste in Australia doesn't have fluoride in it? All of our toothpaste has fluoride, I didn't know toothpaste existed that didn't have fluoride.

Hi Jeff. I was just starting to wonder where you'd been, maybe if you'd collected a lethal paintball.
Most of our town water supplies have fluoride added so I guess that might be why you can buy toothpaste without it. That's 92% of West Aussie citizens. I just checked. Three areas have naturally occurring fluoride and one area has to de-fluoride the natural water. Here endeth the lesson. :)

I think the kind of toothpaste she's talking about has extra strong fluoride. I've had to use special toothpaste that I could not rinse out, as she has described. I think our regular toothpaste in the US has just a little bit of fluoride.

@JudyEv Yeah, we add fluoride to our drinking water as well. So maybe it's overkill for us, but we have fluoridated drinking water AND fluoride toothpaste. Americans are obsessed with their teeth!

That is a great picture!
I was also at the dentist on Thursday and it cost me $200 for the checkup and I will have to go back to have a filling that broke fixed and a bit of more intensive preventive work so that my teeth will last a long time, whatever that means. I want o keep my teeth as long as I can and so it will be worth it!

@JudyEv I feel the same but at that time no one taught me about teeth hygiene.

@1hopefulman Some here. We only ever went to the dentist with tooth-ache which usually meant an extraction.

nice to get a saving, even if only for a modest amount - good shot of the Dentist

@arthurchappell Yes, let him be on the end of the camera for a change. They always seem to want to take X-rays but they say the radiation is minimal. You just have to trust them really don't you?

We get a treatment of fluoride at the dentist office, we gargle with it and it is good for 6 months. I use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth.

@FayeHazel Too soon to tell and I don't know if we'd notice any difference anyway. The dentist said we have a bit of gingivitis so maybe our gums won't bleed so much - not that they bleed a lot but they sometimes do.

We are taking much better care of our teeth now we're older which is really stupid. We should have been doing this when we were young.
